About The Position

TELUS Agriculture & Consumer Goods (TAC) is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead their Data and Analytics Platform Engineering team. This role involves being a builder, mentor, and technical authority, reporting directly to the Director of Engineering. The manager will be the primary owner of the analytics ecosystem, responsible for its success, maturation, and scalability. The team's goal is to transform complex data into actionable narratives, enabling customers to optimize their businesses with accuracy and efficiency. The position aims to drive the evolution of the analytics platform into a mature, enterprise-grade solution, leading the design and implementation of complex architectures for a unified, scalable data experience. The role requires balancing people leadership with technical oversight, ensuring adherence to best practices in cloud-native data modeling and SQL optimization.

Requirements

Minimum 7 years of experience in software engineering, including expertise in various programming languages, software architecture, and development methodologies.
Minimum 5 years of experience in an engineering manager role, demonstrating leadership abilities, team management, mentorship, and strategic decision-making.
Experience in distributed systems architecture, including designing, implementing, and managing distributed systems for scalability, reliability, and fault tolerance.
Proficiency in monitoring and performance analysis, including implementing and/or utilizing monitoring tools and performance analysis techniques.
Strong understanding of best practices in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), including reliability engineering, service level objectives (SLOs), error budgeting, and incident management.
Experience in evaluating and adopting new technologies, including assessing potential benefits and risks.
Strong project management skills, including leading large-scale engineering projects from planning through execution.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Proven track record of driving a culture of innovation and excellence, promoting best practices and encouraging exploration of new ideas.
Ability to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements related to software development and data security.

Responsibilities

Define and lead the technical strategy and architectural direction for software development across the organization, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
Oversee multiple engineering teams, providing leadership, mentorship, and direction to team leads and managers.
Collaborate with product management, design, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of engineering efforts with product development timelines and market needs.
Ensure the adoption of best practices in software architecture, coding standards, and technology frameworks to maintain excellence in product development.
Drive the evaluation and adoption of new technologies, tools, and processes that improve the efficiency and quality of engineering outputs.
Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of large-scale engineering projects, ensuring they meet quality, budget, and timeline goals.
Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement, encouraging the exploration of new ideas and technologies that can enhance product offerings and customer satisfaction.
Develop and maintain a high-level view of current and future technology trends, assessing their potential impact on the company's products and competitive positioning.
Ensure robust processes for code review, testing, deployment, and operations, including monitoring and performance analysis, to deliver high-quality and reliable software solutions.
Manage and optimize resource allocation across projects, ensuring the right balance between short-term deliverables and long-term product strategy.
Champion the professional development of engineering team members, providing opportunities for growth, learning, and career advancement.
Participate in executive decision-making processes, providing insights and recommendations on technology investments, strategic partnerships, and product development priorities.
