About The Position

As a Senior Engineering Manager for our Platform Engineering team, you will lead a talented team of platform engineers while taking full accountability for the performance, delivery, and evolution of the engineering foundations that power every product at Traild. Platform Engineering sits at the heart of our technology organisation, owning the cloud infrastructure and developer platforms that enable our product engineering teams to build, ship and operate software at scale. You will lead the team responsible for our GCP infrastructure, networking, compute, storage, CI/CD pipelines, observability, infrastructure-as-code, developer experience, and FinOps, solving complex technical challenges across scalability, reliability, automation, and cloud operations. This is a rare opportunity to join at the beginning of a significant growth journey. You'll initially lead a close-knit, high-performing team of four engineers, with the mandate to shape the team's technical direction, operating model, and long-term strategy. As Traild continues to scale globally, so too will Platform Engineering, expanding in both capability and size to include areas such as cloud and product security, with future opportunities to build additional squads and progress into managing Engineering Managers as the organisation grows. This role is ideal for an experienced engineering leader who enjoys remaining close to the technology while building high-performing teams, and is excited by the opportunity to create the platform that enables hundreds of engineers to move faster, more safely, and with greater confidence.

Requirements

  • An experienced engineering leader who has managed managers and owned outcomes across multiple squads in a fast-moving product environment.
  • Strong technical foundation in backend and distributed systems, with the ability to set direction and make trade-offs visible, not just validate what engineers propose.
  • A clear and confident communicator who can align stakeholders, break down complexity, and hold a consistent position across product, engineering, and the business.
  • A coach and mentor who understands how people grow, invests in emerging talent, and addresses underperformance directly and with care.
  • Someone who leads with an AI-first mindset and brings genuine curiosity about how to use new tools to raise the quality and speed of engineering work.
  • A team-first leader who contributes to a high-trust, inclusive culture.

Responsibilities

  • Own the technical direction, architecture quality, and engineering standards across your group, setting the bar actively rather than reactively.
  • Define and maintain a roadmap that connects engineering work to clear customer and business outcomes, with visibility across the full team.
  • Build and maintain the systems, playbooks, and feedback loops that make your teams fast, reliable, and self-sufficient.
  • Lead, coach, and develop Engineering Managers and individual contributors, with a focus on equitable growth, stretch opportunities, and high performance.
  • Own your team's key delivery metrics including cycle time, deployment frequency, and incident rate, and drive continuous improvement against them.
  • Partner with Product and Engineering leaders to scope, resource, and deliver outcomes across a globally distributed team.
  • Hire talented engineers who share our values and set them up for success from day one.

Benefits

  • Flexibility: we offer a range of remote, hybrid and flexible working options.
  • Global team: we are growing across APAC, NA and EMEA and have team all across the world.

  • Our team genuinely loves working at Traild: our eNPS score is 78, where anything above 50 is considered world-class.
