Senior Engineering Manager, Hyperscale Build Tools and Environments

EverpureSanta Clara, CA
$180,000 - $270,000Onsite

About The Position

We are seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the Hyperscale Build Tools and Environments team. This team is critical for the Hyperscale Line of Business, which builds and ships products at exabyte scale, focusing on speed, reliability, and operational excellence. The team owns the developer productivity infrastructure, including build orchestration, build systems, and containerized build environments, which are essential for every Hyperscale engineer's daily workflow. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical judgment, a deep understanding of build correctness and developer ergonomics, and a passion for optimizing complex workflows for speed, reliability, and ease of operation at scale. This role involves leading and growing a team of engineers, setting strategic direction, driving improvements in build performance and developer experience, and fostering a culture of ownership and collaboration.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, including meaningful experience in infrastructure, developer productivity, build systems, or platform engineering.
  • 3+ years of experience leading engineering teams with 6+ members and a strong track record as a people leader.
  • Experience managing teams that own engineering infrastructure or internal developer platforms used by multiple product teams.
  • Strong understanding of modern build systems and toolchains — dependency management, build-graph correctness, incremental and reproducible builds, artifact generation, and build isolation.
  • Experience with build systems and toolchains such as Make, CMake, and custom or in-house build orchestration tools, plus CI pipelines and containerized (Docker) build environments — experience owning a proprietary or bespoke build tool is a strong plus.
  • Hands-on familiarity with Linux-based development environments, Docker, and the operational concerns of maintaining consistent build images and execution environments.
  • Ability to engage credibly in deep technical discussions with senior engineers and help guide architecture, priorities, and execution without becoming a bottleneck.
  • Experience using engineering metrics for build performance, reliability, and developer experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with large-scale C/C++ builds, including dependency pruning, static/dynamic linking tradeoffs, and reproducible containerized builds.
  • Experience modernizing legacy build systems or migrating workflows across build technologies.
  • Experience improving developer productivity for complex monorepo or multi-repository environments.
  • Background in storage, systems software, distributed systems, or other infrastructure-heavy engineering environments.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field; advanced degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow a team of engineers responsible for build tools and environments.
  • Set direction and execution plans across build orchestration, build-system evolution, containerized environments, and developer-workflow improvements, partnering with tech leads and engineers to own the roadmap.
  • Drive improvements in build speed, reliability, reproducibility, debuggability, and ease of use across local development and CI workflows.
  • Establish operational excellence for build infrastructure, including quality standards, observability, incident response, change management, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with teams across the Hyperscale Line of Business and broader engineering to understand pain points, remove bottlenecks, and align tooling investments with product delivery needs.
  • Coach and develop engineers through regular feedback, career growth planning, stretch opportunities, and strong engineering management practices.
  • Help the team make sound technical and organizational tradeoffs, balancing short-term delivery needs with long-term maintainability and platform health.
  • Participate in recruiting, interviewing, and closing candidates to continue building a strong team.
  • Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, high standards, and customer-focused execution.

Benefits

  • Flexible time off
  • Wellness resources
  • Company-sponsored team events
