About The Position

Expedia Group is a global travel company that connects travelers, partners, and advertisers through its consumer brands, B2B network, and travel advertising business. The Technology Team partners with various teams across Expedia Group to create innovative products, services, and tools for high-quality traveler experiences. This senior engineering manager role is within the design system team, which develops and maintains a unified design system. This system aids teams in building consistent, accessible, scalable, and brand-supportive experiences across web, iOS, and Android using reusable components, design standards, tokens, and theming. The role involves leading people and delivery for a high-impact engineering team, setting direction, developing talent, and ensuring the team achieves business goals.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
8+ years of relevant professional experience and 3+ years of people management experience
Experience owning technical direction and delivery across a multi-service platform, shared capability, or technical domain.
Strong knowledge of software architecture, system design, low-level design, API design, data modeling, testing, observability, and production operations.
Demonstrated ability to lead through influence, manage technical execution across teams, and translate business and customer needs into engineering outcomes.

Nice To Haves

Experience leading the evolution of a design system or comparable shared platform used by multiple product teams, with close partnership across UX, product, design, accessibility, and engineering.
Experience managing and developing full-stack developers and mobile engineers while scaling reliable, accessible, secure, and maintainable engineering systems across a broad product ecosystem.
Track record of operating and scaling reliable, accessible, and maintainable engineering systems across a broad product ecosystem.
Familiarity with AI-assisted engineering workflows or AI/ML-enabled product capabilities, with the judgment to evaluate and operate these solutions responsibly.
Experience building strong partnerships across engineering, product, design, and other technical disciplines to drive adoption of shared capabilities.

Responsibilities

Lead, coach, and develop engineering teams responsible for Expedia Group’s design system, fostering technical excellence, accountability, and continuous growth.
Define and execute the technical strategy for reusable design-system capabilities that improve consistency, accessibility, developer productivity, and customer experiences across products.
Guide architecture and implementation decisions across system design, low-level design, API design, data modeling, and integration patterns for services and shared components.
Partner with product, design, accessibility, and engineering stakeholders to establish priorities, align roadmaps, and deliver scalable solutions across multiple domains.
Establish engineering practices that strengthen reliability, quality, security, observability, and operational excellence for design-system platforms and services.
Safely integrate and operate AI/ML-enabled solutions that improve outcomes, including familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real-world products.
