About The Position

The Senior Engineer will be responsible for designing and developing core software for the product, ensuring its stability, scalability, and resilience. This role involves working independently and collaboratively with the team, as well as with business and technical stakeholders, to implement data quality frameworks and optimize data ingestion patterns. The engineer will also contribute to defining engineering standards, promoting DevOps practices, and selecting technology vendors. Additionally, the role includes coaching and mentoring junior engineers, participating in recruitment, and embodying Thrivent's leadership competencies to foster a culture of continuous improvement and client focus.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or foreign equivalent degree in Applied Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field plus 5 years of progressive post-baccalaureate experience as a data engineer, specialist or consultant, or closely related occupation.
  • Must possess at least 5 years of experience in the following: Working with Hadoop, Spark, Spark streaming, and Kafka; Working with Hive, Oracle, SQL Server, DB2, Snowflake, and Databricks; Designing and architecting data pipelines; Interacting with clients for requirement gathering and finalizing specifications; Using IICS, Informatica power center and Zena.
  • Must possess at least 3 years of experience in the following: Working with Python and Scala.
  • Must possess demonstrable experience in the following: Datawarehouse model using STAR schema; Modeling data in Snowflake and Databricks; Building reusable frameworks to reduce manual effort; Developing and executing test cases; Providing technical guidance to teams by defining and executing Proof of concept; Acting as subject matter expertise in data analysis, building optimized data pipelines, deploying and maintaining a large volume of heterogenous data to create enterprise data lake; Participating in setting strategy and standards through data architecture and implementation leveraging big data and analytics tools and technologies; Building reusable components for reporting and analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Apply technical knowledge to drive outcomes for customers.
  • Work and problem solve independently on initiatives that align to the broader software engineering strategy.
  • Work closely with business and technical stakeholders to design and implement data quality frameworks.
  • Work independently, as well as collaboratively with team, in developing core software for the product that delivers outcomes.
  • Consistent and dependable in delivering core software that delivers outcomes and meets/exceeds the teams’ expectations for stability, scalability, resilience, etc.
  • Share new ideas and techniques with team.
  • Encourage junior engineers to invest in learning as a part of their job.
  • Participate in team’s collaboration sessions to provide technical expertise to solve problems/remove technical roadblocks for the team.
  • Participate in product planning and implementation. Help team to understand and decompose work.
  • Collaborate with enterprise source system teams to define, standardize, and optimize data ingestion patterns.
  • Contribute to developing engineering practices, templates and frameworks in collaboration with the team.
  • Continuously assess technology to build more stable, scalable, and resilient software. Use data to measure progress.
  • Promote and expand on the use of the CI/CD pipeline to improve the deployment and build process.
  • Participate in team support rotation and provide expert knowledge on focus subsystems.
  • Develop and maintain monitoring and observability frameworks to ensure reliable and scalable data pipelines.
  • Contribute to define the selection criteria for selecting the right technology vendors.
  • Participate in proof of concept/technology along with the vendor.
  • Provide guidance to junior engineers to help them learn foundational software engineering skills.
  • Provide technical expertise and help the team to solve technical/software issues.
  • Provide trainings to the junior developers and groom them.
  • Provide domain expertise on software products in their area to junior engineers to help them learn/grow their skills and contribute as part of the team.
  • Engage in the tech community to build the Thrivent technology brand and position as the employer of choice in the market.
  • Participate in the interview process or be part of the panel to recruit the right talent to the team.
  • Contribute to the recruitment to define the structure of the interview process to hire the right talent to the team.
