Senior Engineer

S & K Technologies, Inc.Robins Air Force Base, GA

About The Position

This role involves determining the best value resolution for problems, providing recommended courses of action and viable alternatives to customers. The engineer will develop reports documenting problem data, analyses, and recommended solutions with supporting rationale. Responsibilities span industrial engineering, mechanical engineering for utility infrastructure and hardware design, including process improvements, facility modifications, mechanical documentation, project management, and design of military components. The role requires research, analysis, reverse engineering, and evaluation of materials, electrical, and metallurgical aspects. It also involves repairing and upgrading test stations, designing form-fit-function and programmable logic devices, and performing RF project design and consultation. Access to government databases and knowledge of obsolescence management are crucial.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited school
  • A minimum of four (4) years’ experience in an applicable field.
  • Experience must include technical involvement as applicable in one (1) or more of the following areas: Design, development, production, testing, engineering studies, analysis of system design, performance enhancement
  • Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages (DMSMS) parts obsolescence
  • Knowledgeable of OSHA regulations and application of applicable guidance for safe design and improvements.
  • Must be physically able to perform duties and responsibilities of the classification.
  • Must be able to work with required materials without debilitating irritation to skin, eyes or respiratory system while wearing the required personal protective equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AFSO 21, LEAN, Six Sigma, or similar analysis tools.
  • Experience with Computer Aided Design (CAD) and AutoCAD.
  • Experience with DoD Technical Orders.
  • Experience with GIDEP API.
  • Experience with Radio Frequency (RF) projects.
  • Experience with design simulation software.

Responsibilities

  • Determine the best value resolution for each problem as warranted and provide a recommended course of action, along with viable alternatives, for consideration to the customer.
  • Develop reports documenting problem data, analyses, and recommended solutions including supporting rationale.
  • Evaluate and establish production processes and controls using AFSO 21, LEAN, Six Sigma, or similar analysis tools to implement continuous process improvements.
  • Use Computer Aided Design (CAD) to manage facility modifications and new construction projects compliant to the appropriate OSHA regulatory guidance for infrastructure issues.
  • Prepare and maintain facility mechanical documentation in AutoCAD and prepare design drawings and interface with base organizations for design, troubleshooting, and repair of infrastructure components.
  • Perform project management on various programs within the organization.
  • Prepare and maintain AutoCAD inventory files and perform mechanical designs of military “black boxes” using applicable DoD Technical Orders and industry best practices.
  • Perform thermal and mechanical stress analysis for new and existing designs.
  • Identify potential obsolete parts issues prior to occurrence and provide recommended solutions.
  • Access to the Government Industry Data Exchange Program’s Applications, Programs, and Indentures (GIDEP API), other Government databases, and specialized Diminishing Manufacturing.
  • Use written guidance and local standard procedures to complete work requests, make recommendations for changes to facilities and equipment to improve production processes or to comply with regulatory requirements in support of various programs required of the organization.
  • Research specifications, written guidance, and technical data such as drawings to make recommendations on modernization or maintenance of facilities and equipment.
  • Perform reverse engineering of selected components, associated structures, and assemblies, as required to complete, or supplement system design and maintain precision tolerances where required.
  • Perform all material, electrical and metallurgical evaluations using a structured process including issue identification studies, requirement definition, data development, technology insertion, verification, and production assistance.
  • Repair 1970 – 2000 vintage manual and automatic test stations overcoming hardware failures and obsolescence within the equipment.
  • Perform form-fit-function and programmable logic device design activities that will replace existing electronics using current technology electronics.
  • Perform design, test, analysis, and consultation for all Radio Frequency (RF) projects including recommendations and specifications for appropriate equipment.
  • Utilize design simulation software to validate designs prior to implementation.
