About The Position

This position is responsible for reviewing the impacts of proposed developments on the existing water and wastewater systems. The role involves reviewing site and subdivision construction plans, zoning requests, and other community development applications for compliance with county, state, and federal requirements. The engineer will evaluate water distribution and wastewater collection systems using field data and computer hydraulic modeling. Responsibilities include preparing and reviewing reports, drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and contracts. The role requires interaction with the public, collaboration with other agencies and consultants, and participation in meetings with presentations. The position will utilize Geographic Information System (GIS) Mapping software and receive training on Autodesk (InfoWater Pro) for hydraulic flow tests. Customer inquiries regarding system extensions and connections will be handled. This position is part of an approved Career Development Plan (CDP) offering career progression and potential salary incentives based on performance, qualifications, and experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or closely related field
  • Three years of experience in professional engineering preferred
  • Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of water and wastewater engineering
  • Considerable knowledge of pertinent federal, state and local laws and regulations
  • Ability to develop and review engineering plans, specifications and technical reports
  • Ability to conduct engineering studies, identify problems, and make recommendations for their resolution
  • Ability to administer contracts and coordinate and review the work of outside consultants
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and related software and other standard office equipment
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers
  • Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required

Responsibilities

  • Review the impacts of proposed developments on the existing water and wastewater systems.
  • Review site and subdivision construction plans, zoning requests, and other community development applications for compliance with county specifications, as well as state and federal requirements.
  • Evaluate water distribution and wastewater collection systems using field data and standard engineering practices supplemented with computer hydraulic modeling.
  • Prepare and review reports, drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and contracts.
  • Interact with the public and collaborate with other agencies, consulting firms, and internal/external customers.
  • Host or attend meetings with presentations.
  • Use Geographic Information System (GIS) Mapping software to answer public inquiries and collect and interpret system data.
  • Train to use Autodesk (InfoWater Pro) to run hydraulic flow tests, both static and dynamic, of the county water system to provide information for internal and external customers.
  • Respond to customer inquiries about extending or connecting to the county water and wastewater systems.
  • Perform other work as required.
