About The Position

Eversource is seeking a Senior Engineer for Substation Engineering. This role is responsible for performing engineering assignments that require professional mastery and extensive experience in electric distribution and transmission substations. The Senior Engineer will act as a project engineer, leading the engineering design effort, developing solutions, ensuring quality, managing schedules, and coordinating with other disciplines, procurement, and construction personnel. Key responsibilities include defining project scope and engineering details, supporting cost estimates and schedules, preparing capital project authorization documents, and conducting engineering studies for substation equipment. The role involves close collaboration with the Engineering Design and Drafting group to prepare and review engineering drawings for both Capital and Expense projects. The selected candidate must be able to organize engineering projects, adhere to schedules, and manage tasks from design through energization.

Requirements

  • Requires a BS Engineering or BS Engineering Technology.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in the technical, operational, or engineering aspects of the electrical utility industry.
  • Applicable experience in 13kV through 362kV substation design in accordance with associated IEEE/ANSI standards is required.
  • Applicable experience in substation design in accordance with associated IEEE/ANSI standards is required.
  • Ability to organize engineering projects, work to a schedule and follow through on all assignments as necessary to support design through energization.
  • Ability to prioritize project work for several projects occurring concurrently under budget and time constraints.
  • Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Performs engineering assignments requiring professional mastery and extensive experience in electric distribution and transmission substations.
  • Acts as a project engineer for all substation project assignments, leading the engineering design effort.
  • Develops engineering solutions and ensures the quality of deliverables.
  • Manages the engineering schedule and coordinates the efforts of other assigned engineering disciplines.
  • Coordinates closely with procurement and construction personnel.
  • Defines the concept, scope, and detailed engineering aspects of substation and switching station projects.
  • Supports the preparation of project cost estimates and schedules.
  • Supports the preparation of capital project budget authorization documents.
  • Conducts engineering studies associated with the design and application of substation equipment and materials.
  • Works closely with the Engineering Design and Drafting group to prepare, review, and issue engineering drawings.
  • Organizes engineering projects, works to a schedule, and follows through on all assignments to support design through energization.
  • Acts as a technical leader and applies standard engineering techniques and procedures on complex projects.
  • Provides technical guidance and leadership to other engineers.
  • Fills the role of project engineer providing electrical discipline leadership, including interdisciplinary coordination and scheduling.
  • Prioritizes project work for several projects occurring concurrently under budget and time constraints.
  • Collaborates with other Engineering disciplines to ensure consistency and teamwork.
  • Works with System Planning to develop substation specific scope in support of system reliability solutions studies.
  • Ensures that the design and specification of additions, modifications, and replacements to the transmission and distribution systems are completed accurately and in accordance with internal and industry standards.
  • Responsible for the development of standards, procedures, and equipment specifications.
  • Available to work emergency restoration assignments as required.
  • Available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
  • Responding to emergency situations to meet customers’ needs is part of every employee’s role. If employed, you will be given an Emergency Restoration assignment. This means you may be called to assist during an emergency outside of your normal responsibilities, work hours and location.
