About The Position

SCS is seeking a Senior Engineer/Project Director for their West Palm office to join their growing solid waste team in the South Florida region. The role focuses on mentoring staff, supporting leadership, and leading projects that facilitate client objectives. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, team-focused, and humble. This position involves leading client interactions, developing junior staff, and overseeing design and permitting teams, with the ability to serve as the Engineer of Record for public and private clients. Responsibilities include engineering design, client communications, project management, and staff coordination, with a primary focus on solid waste management projects such as landfill gas, landfills and landfill infrastructure, composting, and transfer stations. The role also includes design, engineering, permitting, construction, and operations support. The position is hybrid, requiring presence in the Tampa office.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related engineering degree is required.
• A minimum of 12 years of relevant experience specific to the solid waste industry such as landfill gas management, air compliance, landfill design and permitting, landfill operations support, or compost facility operations is required.
• A minimum of 2 years of consulting experience required.
• P.E. or P.G. registration required (preferably Florida) or ability to obtain reciprocity in Florida within 6 months.
• Experience managing project financials and leading technical teams.
• Knowledge of applicable regulations, regulatory agencies, and permitting requirements.
• Valid driver’s license with a driving record in good standing is required.

Responsibilities

• Lead interactions with clients.
• Develop the technical skills of highly motivated junior staff.
• Oversee design and permitting teams with the ability to serve as the Engineer of Record on projects for public and private clients.

• Apply intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering and scientific principles in solid waste and related fields such as landfill operations, landfill gas collection and control system, industrial wastewater, and stormwater permitting and design, including overseeing the preparation of construction plans, specifications, and construction documents.
• Provide technical guidance on unusual or complex engineering, operations, and regulatory challenges.
• Complete quality control reviews on all work products (reports, design plans, design calculations, data, etc.) prior to submission.
• Coordinate with GIS and CAD drafters for design plans/figures or use AutoCAD or ArcGIS for basic design plans/figures.
• Business development including but not limited to: proposal preparation, meeting with clients, and attending industry-related conferences/trade shows.
• Work both independently and on teams to resolve engineering challenges, plan and coordinate work, and represent SCS at meetings, trade shows, and conferences.
• Responsible for achieving set revenue, profit, and client satisfaction goals.
