About The Position

RTX BBN Technologies is seeking an experienced engineer with research interests in signal processing, sensing, and control systems design and implementation for its Physical Sciences and Systems group in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The group applies cross-disciplinary techniques to prototype systems and prove concept viability, working with government agencies on technically challenging problems with operational impact. The engineer will develop structural dynamic and acoustic models, signal processing methods, and control systems; analyze data; and support real-time implementation and evaluation of designs in realistic mission scenarios. The role also includes creating detection and classification algorithms and prototype proof-of-concept systems. The candidate may plan, direct, or coordinate tasks or small projects involving multiple people, contribute to proposals and white papers, and present to customers. Some overnight travel may be required for limited off-site testing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related field and 5 years of relevant professional experience; or a Master’s degree in an applicable discipline and 3 years of relevant professional experience; or a new PhD graduate.
  • Knowledge of physics and physical systems, dynamics, control theory, and signal processing.
  • Experience developing signal processing algorithms and implementing physics-based models in MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Hands-on experience using experimental equipment to collect and analyze data sets.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government-issued security clearance required before the start date; U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Active and existing DoD Secret clearance required on day one.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience developing and validating models for simulation of physical systems.
  • Programming experience in Python, C, or C++.
  • Familiarity with laboratory equipment, including sensors, actuators, analyzers, data acquisition, and real-time platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Develop structural dynamic and acoustic models and related signal processing schemes.
  • Perform data analysis, including spectral processing and transfer function analysis, and conduct data-driven simulations.
  • Develop control systems and architectures to affect physical-system performance.
  • Support real-time implementation and evaluation of designs in realistic mission scenarios.
  • Develop detection and classification algorithms against state-of-the-art threats.
  • Develop prototype proof-of-concept systems to address clients’ challenging problems.
  • Plan, direct, or coordinate tasks or small projects involving multiple individuals.
  • Contribute to business development through proposals and white papers and present effectively to customers.
  • Travel overnight as needed to support limited off-site testing.
