Toyota's Powertrain Design (PDE) team is looking for a passionate, highly-motivated Design Engineer with an interest in hybrid transmissions (transaxles). Within the first two years, the primary responsibilities of this role are to support the development of a new transaxle for the North American market. This will include: Collaborating with NA stakeholders (suppliers, supplier development, purchasing, assembly plants) and Japan stakeholders (Chief Engineer and designers) to localize a combination of aluminum die-cast and lubrication related parts through: Simultaneous Engineering (SE), including supplier Go and See. Prototype part making and evaluation, both component and unit level. Modifying design based on prototype evaluation and to optimize mass production. Working with unit and vehicle plants to support transaxle and vehicle build trials and ensure a smooth launch and Start of Production (SOP). Early Detection, Early Resolution (EDER) phases after part introduction into mass production. Supporting benchmarking of other competitors transaxles to collect ideas for cost down and performance improvements for current and future designs. After this period, it is expected that the engineer will transition into a leadership role to develop transaxles to meet future vehicle architectures and customer expectations (i.e. power, fuel economy, warranty etc.).
