About The Position

Dana Incorporated Light Vehicle Thermal Division develops advanced thermal management solutions that support the rapidly evolving electrified mobility market. We are seeking a Senior Product Engineer to lead the design, development, validation, and launch of heat exchanger products for next-generation electric vehicle platforms. In this role, you will provide technical leadership throughout the product development lifecycle, transforming customer requirements into robust, manufacturable thermal solutions. Working directly with major automotive OEMs and cross-functional global teams, you will drive engineering decisions from concept through production launch, ensuring products meet demanding performance, durability, quality, timing, and cost objectives. This position offers the opportunity to influence future EV technologies, solve complex thermal management challenges, and mentor developing engineers while contributing to the growth of Dana's thermal product portfolio.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience developing and launching automotive products from concept through production.
  • Strong understanding of heat transfer, fluid flow, and thermal management system design.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate customer requirements into engineering specifications, product designs, and validation plans.
  • Experience with automotive product development processes, including APQP, DFMEA, DVP&R, and PPAP.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes such as sheet metal forming, brazing, and machining, including associated design constraints.
  • Experience applying engineering analysis, testing, and data-driven decision making to product development challenges.
  • Strong analytical and structured problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage customers and lead technical discussions.
  • Must be legally authorized to live and work in Canada.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with major automotive OEMs such as Ford, General Motors, Stellantis, or equivalent customers is considered an asset.
  • Advanced data analysis skills using Python, MATLAB, or similar tools are considered an asset.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration in Ontario, or eligibility to obtain registration with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO), is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, validation, and launch of heat exchanger products for automotive thermal management applications.
  • Translate customer requirements into measurable engineering targets and product designs that deliver reliable performance across a wide range of operating conditions.
  • Drive technical activities from initial customer engagement and feasibility assessment through production launch.
  • Lead design reviews and approve engineering drawings, specifications, and other technical deliverables required for prototype and production release.
  • Apply sound engineering analysis, testing, and risk assessment practices to support key design decisions throughout the development process.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and development support to associate engineers and student interns.
  • Serve as the primary technical contact for assigned customer programs.
  • Lead technical discussions and design reviews with global OEM and Tier-1 customers, both virtually and in person.
  • Present product concepts, performance analyses, validation results, and design recommendations to customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Support RFIs and RFQs through technical assessments, product sizing calculations, feasibility evaluations, and performance predictions.
  • Develop and maintain DFMEAs, DVP&Rs, and related engineering documentation to support successful product development and launch.
  • Lead APQP activities and ensure engineering deliverables are completed in accordance with program timing and launch requirements.
  • Coordinate prototype builds, including component procurement, assembly support, testing, and delivery.
  • Define validation strategies that demonstrate compliance with customer requirements and intended operating environments.
  • Support development and validation testing activities, using test results to refine and improve product performance and robustness.
  • Collaborate closely with manufacturing, quality, purchasing, and program management teams to support successful production launches.
  • Develop prototype cost estimates, engineering development budgets, and costed bill-of-material information to support business decisions and program planning.
  • Develop innovative thermal management solutions that improve performance, reliability, manufacturability, packaging efficiency, and cost competitiveness.
  • Utilize analytical methods, simulation tools, and experimental testing to predict and validate thermal and hydraulic performance.
  • Drive improvements in heat transfer and fluid flow prediction methods, engineering tools, and product development processes.
  • Lead root cause investigations and corrective action activities using structured problem-solving methodologies such as 8D, Fishbone, and 5 Why analysis.
  • Champion a data-driven engineering approach that balances performance, durability, manufacturability, and cost throughout the product lifecycle.
