About The Position

Lucid is seeking a Senior Engineer, Powertrain Controls Validation to support development and validation of vehicle motion control and chassis-related control systems. This hands-on, highly technical role spans software-in-the-loop (SIL), hardware-in-the-loop (HIL), and vehicle-level validation. The engineer will apply strong engineering fundamentals and knowledge of control systems and vehicle behavior to investigate complex issues from software behavior through to the vehicle. The role is suited to a subject matter expert in powertrain, motion controls, or chassis controls who can work across simulation and physical test environments and take strong ownership of problems. The position involves validating control functionality under a range of operating and fault conditions, connecting observed vehicle behavior to controls, software, calibration, network communications, sensors, and actuators, and collaborating across engineering teams. The engineer will also identify gaps in requirements and validation coverage, support vehicle testing and debugging, communicate technical findings, and improve validation methods.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.
  • Strong fundamentals in control systems, vehicle dynamics, and automotive systems.
  • At least 4 years of experience validating embedded automotive control systems using SIL, HIL, vehicle testing, or a combination of these environments.
  • Ability to interpret requirements, control logic, state machines, signal interfaces, and system architecture.
  • Strong data-analysis and root-cause-debugging skills.
  • Ability to understand physical behavior behind signals rather than relying solely on test results or automated PASS/FAIL criteria.
  • Experience working with CAN and automotive communication signals.
  • Ability to independently structure an ambiguous technical investigation, collect appropriate data, and drive the problem toward resolution.
  • Strong ownership, curiosity, and a can-do attitude.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree or higher education.

Responsibilities

  • Own validation activities for powertrain, vehicle motion control, and chassis control systems across SIL, HIL, and vehicle environments.
  • Develop validation strategies based on system requirements, control architecture, expected vehicle behavior, and failure modes.
  • Validate control functionality across nominal, boundary, transient, degraded, and fault conditions.
  • Investigate complex system-level issues and drive them toward root cause by connecting vehicle behavior to controls, software, calibration, network communication, sensors, and actuators.
  • Work closely with Controls, Systems, Software, Calibration, Functional Safety, and Vehicle Engineering teams.
  • Identify gaps in requirements, control behavior, interfaces, diagnostics, and validation coverage.
  • Develop efficient and repeatable test methodologies while applying engineering judgment rather than relying exclusively on scripted testing.
  • Support vehicle testing, issue reproduction, data collection, and technical debugging.
  • Communicate technical findings, risks, and recommendations to engineering teams.
  • Help improve the overall validation approach using controls and vehicle-level engineering fundamentals.
