About The Position

Eaton's Corporate Sector division is seeking a Senior Engineer, Operational Technology to join their Functional Excellence team. This role is responsible for deploying, supporting, and standardizing machine connectivity across manufacturing sites to enable Operations 4 Growth initiatives. Eaton is implementing a common, scalable, and standard approach to machine connectivity enterprise-wide, which is foundational for capturing real-time data to support a digital strategy, improve decision-making, and drive continuous improvement for manufacturing excellence. The OT Engineer will act as an ambassador for this strategy, collaborating with MES Global Process Owners, IT, and site teams. The role involves developing and enforcing machine connectivity policies to ensure data integrity, quality, and consistency across all sites, adhering to Eaton's standards. The focus is on connecting industrial equipment to the OT network and data platforms in compliance with OT architecture, cybersecurity, and IT/OT integration standards, ensuring reliable, scalable, and secure data acquisition from shopfloor assets.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronics/Mechatronics Engineering.
  • Minimum eight (8) years of experience in manufacturing industry.
  • Minimum two (2) years experience in machine connectivity or related i4.0 activities.
  • Experience in implementing machine connectivity with diverse set of assets.
  • Experience working with different associated functions (e.g. IT, Manufacturing Engineering, i4.0, etc).
  • Experience with: PLC Programming, machine connectivity protocols, Kepware, Digital data Management software (e.g. PCaT, Ignition, etc,).
  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Only candidates within a 50-mile radius of Houston, TX or Raleigh, NC. Active-Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation.
  • This position requires use of information or access to hardware which may be subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
  • Proficient with computer and software tools, including advanced Excel capabilities.
  • Ability to read and use wiring, connection, schematic, and ladder logic diagrams to troubleshoot control systems.
  • Ability to build and evaluate network diagrams / topology for new connectivity and OT devices.
  • Ability to setup industrial network devices (switches/routers) and connect these into the existing IT infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of Industrial IoT concepts & solutions.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as fabrication, assembly & test, as well as materials management and quality processes.
  • Knowledge/experience setting up Kepware OPC system.
  • Experience in controls engineering, programming, big data, and analytics.
  • Experience in PLC and HMI programming.
  • Understanding of machine connectivity, communication protocols and data management.
  • Understanding of IT infrastructure and system integration.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity standards & policies.
  • Broad knowledge of manufacturing processes & associated equipment (sheet metal fabrication, molding, assembly, wiring, painting, machining, etc).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills when talking to both technical and non-technical audiences at different levels of organization.
  • Ability to communicate with international peers and support organizations (vendors, IT,...).
  • Demonstrate ability to understand main ideas of complex texts (manual reading).
  • Ability to build strong network, collaborating and influencing different business groups & cultures.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects / programs simultaneously.
  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to get into consensus and take decision based on standard processes.

Responsibilities

  • Direct support of key programs, ensuring on-time completion of OT activities within the overall program, guiding and supporting plant teams on machine connectivity and data acquisition activities.
  • Drive maximizing solution standardization across the enterprise, ensuring integration and adherence to industry best practices. Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure machine connectivity solutions aligns with business goals and industry standards.
  • Communicate and implement standard processes, also identify issues during implementation, defining actions to address it together with OT Leader.
  • Promote machine connectivity adoption, escalating risks and acts as gate keeper for process governance.
  • Raise the need for machine connectivity training, ensuring site stakeholders are aware of their role in the process, and proper knowledge is assimilated by each site, business and/or region.
  • Reinforce the deployment of machine connectivity playbooks, best practices and lessons learned sharing across the enterprise to drive smooth machine connectivity implementation, refining and mature the OT hardware standard lists and supporting on evaluating non-standard requests for OT solutions.
  • Expected 20-25% travel including international as determined by implementation roadmap and business needs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams/resources to execute projects – plant leadership, Information Technology, Operational Excellence, Production, Quality, Facilities and Engineering.
