About The Position

The Senior Deterministic Safety Analysis (DSA) Engineer position will make immediate contributions to the team responsible for BWRX 300 deterministic safety analyses with primary focus on LOCA and Containment performance. The DSA team is responsible for performing safety analysis in support of various applications for BWRX 300 transient analyses, thermal hydraulic analyses, Loss of Coolant Accident (LOCA) analysis, containment analysis, and stability analysis. The individual will work within an energetic team environment to perform thermal hydraulic and plant transient analyses to support a variety of applications encompassing BWRX 300 DSA, with emphasis on LOCA mass and energy release, containment thermal hydraulics, and passive system performance (ICS and PCCS). The position offers limitless opportunities to contribute to the fundamental bases of nuclear power plant operations and safety analysis by applying state of the art thermal hydraulics methods to satisfy licensing requirements and solve real day-to-day plant problems. Additionally, this position has direct customer-facing opportunities through training, deliverables, and collaboration. The DSA team offers unique opportunities to create and/or improve cutting edge automation and methods.

Requirements

• B.S. Degree in Engineering Discipline (Nuclear, Mechanical, Physics or similar). 8+ years of relevant nuclear experience with at least 5+ years of demonstrated experience in thermal‑hydraulic safety analysis (direct experience with LOCA and/or containment analysis is strongly preferred) OR M.S. Degree in Engineering Discipline (Nuclear, Mechanical, Physics or similar). 6+ years of relevant nuclear experience with at least 3+ years of demonstrated experience in thermal‑hydraulic safety analysis (direct experience with LOCA and/or containment analysis is strongly preferred). OR PHD in Engineering Discipline (Nuclear, Mechanical, Physics or similar). 4+ years of relevant nuclear experience with at least 1+ years of demonstrated experience in thermal‑hydraulic safety analysis (direct experience with LOCA and/or containment analysis is strongly preferred).
• Eligibility for access to U.S. export-controlled information.

Nice To Haves

• Master's Degree or Ph.D. Degree in Engineering; or Senior Reactor Operator Certification.
• Experience with BWR core simulation and thermal‑hydraulic systems codes.
• Experience with BWR LOCA, Containment, ICS/PCCS performance, HELB, Fire Safe Shutdown, Annulus Pressurization Loads, and RIPD analyses.
• Extensive knowledge of BWR Systems and integrated plant response.
• Extensive knowledge of the fundamental principles of nuclear engineering such as nuclear physics, thermal hydraulics, and mechanical design, as applied to BWR.
• Expertise in two‑phase thermal‑hydraulic analysis techniques.
• Experience with standard engineering work planning and design process techniques.
• Knowledge of reactor licensing requirements and deterministic safety analysis methodologies (e.g., CN‑DSA, EX‑DSA, RG 1.203/CSAU, REGDOC‑2.4.1 / REGDOC‑2.5.2).
• Experience with BWR/PWR T‑H systems codes such as TRACG (strongly preferred), RELAP, and TRACE.
• Experience in Best Estimate methodology development (e.g., TRACG).
• Experience with Containment codes such as GOTHIC, including multi‑volume nodalization and passive heat removal modeling.
• Experience with Best Estimate and CSAU applications.
• Programming experience such as C#, FORTRAN, or PYTHON.

Responsibilities

• Lead a variety of projects including technical evaluations and analyses in the area of Anticipated Operational Occurrences, Anticipated Transients without Scram, Reactor Heat Balance, and Thermal Hydraulic Fuel Channel Analyses.
• Serve as a subject‑matter expert for BWRX‑300 LOCA and Containment behavior, leading development, maintenance, and application of DSA methods and results that implement key topical reports (e.g., LOCA summary, containment performance, and containment evaluation method).
• Perform plant thermal‑hydraulic evaluations and analyses in the areas of LOCA (large and small breaks inside and outside containment), high‑energy line break (HELB), Containment pressure/temperature and sub‑compartment response, passive containment cooling system (PCCS) and Isolation Condenser System (ICS) performance, Fire Safe Shutdown, Annulus Pressurization Loads, and RIPD analyses.
• Develop, document, and apply TRACG‑based evaluation models for LOCA mass‑and‑energy release and fuel acceptance criteria, and GOTHIC‑based models for containment response, including conservative (CN‑DSA) and best‑estimate (EX‑DSA) applications consistent with RG 1.203 / CSAU practices.
• Deliver products at a consistently high and sustainable level in accordance with customer requirements, business procedures, and regulatory agency guidelines.
• Utilize unique opportunities to create and/or improve cutting‑edge automation and methods.
• Prepare thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, and calculations, including regulatory submittals, responses to Requests for Additional Information (RAIs), and technical justifications related to LOCA and containment.
• Perform technical verification of engineering technical deliverables.
• Prepare, communicate, and present complex technical issues to internal and external customers and recommend solutions, including explaining integrated plant response for LOCA/containment events to regulators, utilities, and partners.
• Perform in cross‑disciplinary settings, engaged with interfacing teams responsible for mechanical design, core design, licensing, systems design, civil/structural design, or other affiliated organizations to find optimum customer solutions, ensuring LOCA and containment requirements are reflected in evolving plant design.
• Ensure work is performed with high quality in accordance with regulatory rules and regulations, customer requirements, and business quality assurance standards.
