About The Position

As the Senior Engineer, Metering Quality Assurance, you set the standard for metering excellence at ENMAX, combining deep technical expertise with leadership, ownership, and continuous improvement. This role goes beyond maintaining standards. You will lead through influence, guide cross-functional teams, and bring clarity to complex challenges across our distribution system and AMI program. You are a hands-on leader who is comfortable diving into technical detail while motivating others to deliver high-quality, compliant outcomes. With a strong foundation in electrical distribution engineering and field experience, you bring curiosity, initiative, and a drive to continuously improve how we operate, innovate, and serve our customers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • P.Eng status with The Association of Professionals in Engineering and Geoscience in Alberta (APEGA), in good standing
  • Minimum 10 years of related utility experience
  • Knowledge of Electrical Power Distribution Systems, codes, regulations, work practices, and safety
  • Demonstrated experience applying quality management principles (e.g., inspection, root cause analysis, corrective actions) in a utility or engineering environment
  • Strong understanding of Alberta electrical regulatory environment (Settlement System Code, Measurement Canada, CEA, Electricity and Gas Inspection Act, Tariff Bill Code, EPC’s Terms and Conditions)
  • Good knowledge of metering, metering data, infrastructure, and radio technologies
  • Strong understanding of IT systems and data collection systems
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Thorough understanding of MS Office Suite, RMS, Maximo, VEE, Itron, and Honeywell Metering applications
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical work through others and influence cross-functional stakeholders
  • Adaptability and ability to implement innovative technologies and drive continuous improvement
  • Proactive and improvement-oriented, with the ability to take initiative and drive outcomes in complex environments
  • Advanced problem-solving, strategic thinking, and decision-making skills in complex technical environments
  • Exceptional time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders in a complex environment
  • Technical expertise in electrical distribution systems and metering technologies
  • Must be legal to work in Canada
  • Requires the successful completion of a criminal background check
  • Two pieces of valid Government issued ID will be required

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, govern, and continuously improve Metering Standards and equipment specifications, ensuring alignment with evolving regulatory and legislative requirements
  • Lead standards development and regulatory adherence, incorporating stakeholder feedback and proactively implementing required changes
  • Review, update, and approve changes to metering standards for emerging DER technologies (EV charging, batteries, heat pumps)
  • Influence cross-functional stakeholders (e.g., System Planning, Protection & Controls, Customer Projects) to ensure alignment on metering standards and system requirements
  • Act as a technical escalation point, taking ownership of complex issues and driving resolution from investigation through implementation
  • Identify opportunities to enhance metering practices and QA processes, incorporating field insights, data, and emerging technologies
  • Provide technical leadership and support for DER-related activities, including performance monitoring and data reporting
  • Govern Meter Shop processes to ensure compliance with Measurement Canada’s accreditation
  • Engage with AUC, AESO, CEA, and Measurement Canada, including participation in working groups and responding to regulatory information requests
  • Define new metering technologies and propose annual metering capital budget information requests
  • Develop construction standards and technical bulletins for stakeholders and contractors
  • Oversee substation metering standards and ensure compliance with AESO and Measurement Canada
  • Manage Quality Assurance Program, conduct inspections, and oversee corrective actions
  • Support AMI Project as Technical Lead, including experimental lab design and data analytics
