About The Position

Corning Incorporated is hiring a Sr. Engineer, Mechatronics in Painted Post, NY. This is a full-time onsite role that typically works Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week, with flexibility as needed to support project objectives. Travel is project-based and typically ranges from 10-30%, with the potential for higher travel during equipment build, installation, and start-up phases. Domestic travel is expected, and international travel may be required. Relocation assistance is available. Join Corning’s Manufacturing, Technology and Engineering (MT&E) organization at Sullivan Park, Corning’s central research and development campus, and support the development of advanced automation and process equipment that helps bridge early-stage research into manufacturing-ready solutions. In this hands-on engineering role, you will work across mechanical design, robotics, controls, instrumentation, and machine development to support prototype and next-generation equipment. This team partners with research, development, manufacturing, operations, and external suppliers to design, build, debug, install, and improve equipment used to enable new products and new process capability across Corning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related engineering field with coursework, lab work, or project work in automation and machine design
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in mechatronics, automation, machine design, robotics, or related engineering work; internship and co-op experience will be considered
  • Experience with CAD/design software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or Inventor
  • Experience reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and engineering documentation
  • Knowledge of mechanical and basic electrical engineering principles related to equipment design, troubleshooting, and improvement
  • Experience working on technical problems in a cross-functional engineering environment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with equipment design, installation, start-up, debug, troubleshooting, or commissioning in a research, manufacturing, or automation environment
  • Knowledge of industrial controls and automation platforms such as Rockwell, Omron, or Beckhoff
  • Experience with industrial robots, such as Fanuc
  • Familiarity with electrical integration activities such as wiring, panels, control cabinets, or system troubleshooting
  • Experience in a custom automation, machine builder, system integrator, or prototype-to-scale-up environment

Responsibilities

  • Support the design and development of mechatronic systems for automation and manufacturing applications
  • Contribute to the design, build, integration, and improvement of prototype and next-generation process equipment
  • Support equipment installation, start-up, debug, troubleshooting, and commissioning activities across lab and manufacturing environments
  • Apply mechanical, electrical, and controls knowledge to solve equipment and process challenges
  • Develop or refine mechanical fixtures, tooling, and other automation-related hardware
  • Support robotics and motion-based systems used in precision handling and automated assembly applications
  • Verify equipment builds and layouts against drawings, schematics, and design intent
  • Update drawings, documentation, and engineering records as equipment and designs evolve
  • Partner with research, development, manufacturing, and operations teams to advance projects from concept through implementation
  • Interface with suppliers, machine builders, and technical partners to support equipment builds, testing, and deployment
