About The Position

TerraPower is seeking highly motivated professionals interested in advanced nuclear reactor research and development, influencing the nuclear power landscape, and contributing to the production of medical isotopes. This role involves creating design solutions for the Natrium Generation IV Reactor, focusing on reactor structures and components. The Senior Engineer will report to the Reactor Enclosure System Component Manager and work within a team of engineers and scientists dedicated to developing next-generation advanced nuclear reactors. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in ASME Section III nuclear design and will be responsible for preparing, reviewing, and certifying Design Specifications and Design Reports, as well as supporting licensing, compliance, and customer deliverables.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical engineering or equivalent preferred
  • Minimum of 6+ years of equipment / component design experience; relevant M.S. degree credited as two years of experience.
  • Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required
  • Working experience with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III.
  • Demonstrated experience certifying Design Specifications and Design Reports for nuclear pressure-retaining components
  • Deep understanding of ASME Section III, NQA-1, and related NRC regulations.
  • Experience in finite element stress analysis, mechanical analysis methods, and commercial mechanical stress analysis modeling tools with emphasis on ANSYS.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills, creative thinker.
  • High degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork.
  • Subject to qualification requirements in accordance with ANSI/ANS 3.1.
  • Meet the minimum education and experience criteria applicable to the role, including relevant nuclear industry experience where required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed design, analysis, and documentation for ASME Section III Class HB pressure boundaries and Class HG internals.
  • Develop and maintain design specifications, calculations, load evaluations, and qualification reports in compliance with ASME Section III and related nuclear codes and standards.
  • Prepare and certify engineering design packages, including performing or reviewing design calculations to ensure accuracy and code compliance.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to define design requirements, resolve technical issues, and optimize component performance.
  • Interface with internal quality teams, third-party reviewers, and regulatory bodies to support audits, design reviews, and code certification processes.
  • Support material selection, fabrication requirements, inspection criteria, and acceptance standards for Class HB and HG components.
  • Participate in engineering change processes, nonconformance evaluations, and corrective action development as required.
  • Maintain current knowledge of ASME Section III revisions, NRC guidance, and industry best practices.
  • Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers as needed.
