About The Position

This operational support and project leader position is designed to leverage the candidate’s knowledge of United’s Best Practices, tools, and processes within the Digital Technology – Field Services organization. The successful candidate will possess the ability to lead and mentor junior Engineers and contractors as needed. The role is responsible for managing all logistical aspects of medium to large-sized projects, helping coordinate project and resource plans, training of airport staff, and ensuring functionality and quality of the delivered solution. They will oversee projects such as Local Area Network (LAN), Wide Area Network (WAN), Voice Over IP (VOIP), Closed Circuit Television (CCTV), Audio Visual (A/V) technology platforms, mobility platforms, and infrastructure activities that comply with United’s IT critical infrastructure standards. The role will include interfacing between Field Services and internal & external business partners and vendors. The successful candidate must possess excellent organization and communication skills, a strong background in project management, a strong understanding of telecommunications standards and practices, and excellent customer service skills. Oversees DT projects and technology support for an assigned set of large and small line stations. Other sites may include customer service centers, contact centers, and all other United Airlines facilities. Duties include walkthroughs, site surveys, Digital Technology (DT) equipment support, preventative maintenance, mobility product support, DT network infrastructure support, operational equipment and communication rooms, base location inventory management and supply storage. Station ownership – Establishes relationships with the leadership of the airports/stations they oversee. This includes completing regular station visits, communicating with station leadership on project status and the current state of technology at the station, and completing the station visit checklist when visiting the airport. Performs system maintenance/administration, diagnostics, imaging of PCs and mobile devices, installation and removal of PC equipment, assist end users with troubleshooting of device performance issues. Attends regional project meetings and provides project tracking and analysis. Supports the integration of vendor tasks and tracks and reviews vendor deliverables. Coordinates activities with internal/external technology owners/service providers, Network Engineering, WAN Engineering, WiFi Engineering, Mobility Engineering and Electrical contractors. Mentor junior engineers and contractors to build their skillsets and teach United DT Best Practices. Ensures the Main Distribution Frame (MDF) room and Intermediate Distribution Frame (IDF) conform to established enterprise/industry standards, Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI), Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA), Telecommunications Industry association (TIA).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Technology
  • 2+ years of relevant experience
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Technical aptitude and ability to learn new technologies
  • Experience leading mid to large-size projects
  • Ability to communicate solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences
