Senior Engineer, HV Engineering

Cypress Creek RenewablesSan Francisco, NY
$110,000 - $150,000Hybrid

About The Position

Cypress Creek Energy is powering a sustainable future, one project at a time. We develop, finance, own and operate utility-scale and distributed solar and storage projects across the country. Fostering a diverse group of innovative thinkers from all backgrounds, Cypress people are drawn to work in a purpose-driven organization. We hope you will join us. CCE is seeking a Senior Engineer, HV Engineering to serve as a lead technical authority on generation and load interconnection engineering, substation design, and utility compliance. This role sits at the intersection of substation design and project execution. You'll provide hands-on technical guidance that shapes how CCE designs, builds, and commissions utility-scale solar, storage, and co-located large load facilities across our national portfolio. This is an individual contributor and cross-functional role reporting to the Senior Manager of HV Engineering.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of power systems or transmission engineering experience in a utility, generation developer, EPC, or consulting engineering environment.
  • Working knowledge of utility substation design, HV equipment specifications, and interconnection study processes across multiple ISOs/RTOs and utilities.
  • Experience reviewing substation design (electrical/P&C) packages and commissioning documentation.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage and prioritize across multiple simultaneous workstreams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical findings clearly to non-technical and commercial audiences.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference for candidates with steady-state and dynamic modeling tools (PSS/E, PowerWorld, ETAP, or equivalent) as well as experience reviewing wide area screening analyses.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical engineering support for interconnection requests on both generation and load projects, including initial queue submissions, material modifications, and as-built updates.
  • Review internal site plans and single line diagrams (SLDs) for physical interconnection feasibility and utility compliance, including Point of Interconnection (POI) substation expansion configurations.
  • Review ISO/RTO interconnection studies including System Impact Studies (SIS), Facilities Studies, and short circuit studies to validate assumptions, identify cost drivers, and flag technical concerns on behalf of CCE project teams.
  • Review and validate consultant-prepared generator and load models across all interconnection lifecycle stages — initial requests, as-built submissions, and material modifications — in PJM, MISO, ERCOT, WECC, and other markets.
  • Manage external engineering consultants and technical parties to create deliverables and studies necessary for project execution.
  • Support EPC procurement processes including preparation and review of RFPs for substation and interconnection scope.
  • Respond to EPC technical RFI’s, ensuring alignment with overall project design, company standards and value engineering.
  • Review EPC-submitted design packages and engineering studies for technical accuracy, utility compliance, and alignment with internal company standards. This includes reviewing substation and project level electrical, P&C, and physical designs.
  • Develop and review Owner-Furnished Equipment (OFE) datasheets and technical specifications to ensure compliance with utility standards and project requirements. OFE typically includes substation main power transformers and HV circuit breakers.
  • Review of OEM equipment drawings and factory test reports for major substation equipment across CCE's project portfolio.
  • Lead technical interconnection oversight with utilities and transmission owners throughout the project lifecycle, serving as CCE's primary engineering point of contact on HV and utility engineering matters.
  • Provide high voltage and utility engineering support during construction, commissioning, and energization activities. This includes coordinating with utility on project back-feed and providing guidance to internal PM’s on testing and commissioning activities.
