The Senior Engineer, Automotive Product Applications is responsible for developing and promoting designs for weight and cost reduction to achieve competitive solutions for vehicle applications. This role requires strong knowledge of body design, assembly, and manufacturing methods from design to function release.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Materials, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field and 5 years related experience with steel products and manufacturing.
  • 24 months of experience analyzing market trends, defining customer product needs, and recommending projects and priorities for new product development.
  • 24 months of experience identifying new technologies and conducting tests in evaluating feasibility for successful transfer and commercialization of new business solutions.
  • 24 months of experience providing expertise of the application technology capabilities and interfacing with customers to promote and utilize these technologies.
  • 24 months of experience analyzing customer products and processes and recommending cost savings opportunities or product improvements.
  • 24 months of experience working with regulatory codes, standards, and material specifications to ensure compliance and negotiating changes with agencies and customers.
  • 24 months of experience supporting materials characterization and evaluating magnetic properties for electrical steels.
  • 24 months of experience designing, forming (stamping, roll forming, hydroforming), joining (welding, bonding) and painting.

Responsibilities

  • Recommend solutions to customers requested product needs and negotiate as required with customers and ArcelorMittal North America (AM) business units to implement a suitable match.
  • Participate in analyzing market trends and forecasting and defining customer product needs, while recommending projects and priorities for global New Product Development or Global R&D activities.
  • Participate in the development and commercialization of new solutions to provide new profitable business opportunities in alignment with the company’s strategic plan.
  • Identify novel technologies and conduct tests to evaluate feasibility to pilot their transfer and commercialization in various company’s business units as directed by the groups strategic and business plans and supervision.
  • Achieve technical source approvals from customers to allow for the commercial supply of products, ensuring all approvals are consistent with the company’s commercial groups’ needs.
  • Analyze customer products and processes and recommend, as well as implement cost savings opportunities or product improvements.
  • Maintain awareness of regulatory codes, standards, and material specifications to ensure compliance and negotiate changes with agencies and customers.
  • Participate in trade association and regulatory agency activities to ensure steel remains a viable material choice for our customers’ product needs.
  • Facilitate and provide local expertise in the application technology capabilities of Global R&D, and interface with our customers to promote and utilize these technologies.
  • Determine the value creation for assigned projects when negotiating commercial contracts.
  • Initiate customer contacts and respond to wide range customer inquiries.
  • Utilizing tools and technologies in support of material characterization and evaluating magnetic properties and performance of electrical steels and designing, forming (including stamping, roll forming, hydroforming), joining (welding, bonding) and painting.
