Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation is required.
  • 7-10 years of direct experience with operations and design and construction of generation facilities and electric utility infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of regulated utility business and budget management.
  • Experience with mentoring, coaching, and leading teams.
  • Project management experience.
  • Strong trouble shooting and analytics skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Dedication to producing results.
  • Excellent communications skills (written, verbal and interpersonal).
  • Supervisory skills with trade personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and manage equipment overhauls for the entire generating fleet.
  • Develop multi-year capital plans projects prioritized from analysis of capacity, reliability, safety and environment risks, and cost-saving or performance improvement opportunities. The program will consider funding, resourcing, operational, regulatory, and technical constraints to be practical and ambitious towards the business unit’s goals.
  • Take the lead on capital execution, from design development to operations integration. This requires selection, stewardship, and leadership of multiple different contractors and consultants, ensuring they are delivering to business expectations and project needs.
  • Responsible for hiring, onboarding, performance management, and scheduling or prioritizing the work of direct reports.
  • Suggest process improvements and assist in development of procedures and work tools.
  • Provide technical input and assistance to operations, based upon competency and relevant experience.
  • Regular communication with multiple stakeholders, regarding project progress, influencing resources and outcomes, leading change, and reporting key performance indicators.
  • Support, provide input and/or coach other members of the generation team.
  • Identify and justify capital maintenance projects for isolated generation, including analysis of operational issues, alternatives, and improvement opportunities. Prepare supporting reports and memoranda.
  • Develop project charters, execution plans, statements of work, and design basis documents; secure funding approvals with appropriate budget estimates through stage gates.
  • Manage internal and external engineering, environmental, legal/land, and technical resources to deliver designs, work packages, and permits.
  • Prepare and validate design and technical documentation for smaller work packages within their discipline.
  • Oversee contractors for demolition, installation, transport, and testing activities.
  • Coordinate internal resources for permitting and commissioning and inspections to ensure safety, quality, and completeness.
  • Lead procurement activities, including requisitions, tender evaluations, recommendations, and contract administration.
  • Coordinate with external project managers on large, complex projects to support delivery, funding, and procurement requirements.
  • Monitor and control project scope, budget, schedule, and quality to meet performance expectations.
  • Provide construction oversight and ensure commissioning and testing plans are executed using appropriate resources.
  • Lead project close-out and review processes, capturing lessons learned and driving continuous improvement.
  • Ensure all engineering activities comply with AEY’s Professional Practice Management Plan.
  • Other duties as required.
  • Preparation of regulatory business cases for individual appropriations.
  • Prepare issue briefs and white papers for a variety of audiences.
  • Answer IRs.
