About The Position

The Technology Enabling Development Lab (TED) focuses on the host interface firmware layer, which bridges system software and flash management firmware. This critical technology powers Samsung's V-NAND and enables demanding enterprise-class applications, including hyper-scale data centers, big data processing, and software-defined virtual storage arrays and infrastructures. This role requires daily onsite presence at our San Jose, CA office / U.S. headquarters in alignment with our Flexible Work policy.

Requirements

  • BS in Computer/Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Computer Science, and 5 years of relevant experience in software or firmware or a MS in Computer/Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Computer Science with 3 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Strong experience in C/C++ programming for embedded systems is required.
  • Strong experience with UART/JTAG/ICE debuggers, and protocol analyzers.
  • Familiarity with at least one of the storage protocols such as SAS / SATA / SCSI / FC / NVMe / PCIe protocols is required.
  • Hands on experience with UART/JTAG/ICE debuggers, firmware debugging and protocol analyzers.

Responsibilities

  • NVMe or SAS SSD Firmware development
  • Analyze, debug, and resolve firmware issues observed at domestic and international customer sites as well as at local and overseas development centers.
  • Triage and root cause system, driver, and device interoperability issues at customer sites.
  • OEM Spec gap analysis, firmware customization/feature development; collaborate with other engineering teams to analyze debug information and implement and deploy firmware patches.
  • Need based business travel and stay at domestic and international customer sites as well as overseas development centers for extended periods of time (can be up to multiple weeks at a time)
  • Assist customers by running or inspecting their tests at onsite locations
