About The Position

This role provides overall leadership for the Environmental and Sustainability systems at the manufacturing site in Beech Island, SC. The goal is to support a safe and profitable operation that strives to continuously improve and reduce the mill's impact on the environment. As an integral part of the Environment & Sustainability (E&S) team, the Site Senior Environmental & Sustainability Engineer spearheads Kimberly-Clark’s (K-C) commitment to Better Care for a Better World. This position ensures the facility operates in conformance with K-C E&S Standards and complies with local legal requirements. The role involves identifying and directing appropriate processes and systems to enhance site program maturity, manage risks, and achieve continuous improvement in environmental and sustainability results. The Senior Engineer may lead a team and reports to the Segment E&S Operations Leader.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, Chemical Engineering, Pulp & Paper Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or equivalent.
  • 5 plus years of E&S experience in air permitting, Chemical management, SPCC, and SWPPP programs in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated management and leadership experience.
  • Strong communication, collaboration and influencing skills.

  • Possess or agree to obtain and maintain DOT/RCRA Training.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the site is compliant with K-C and regulatory controls and requirements related to environmental matters, including extensive knowledge of EPA (Clean Air Act), SCDES, and other federal and state agencies.
  • Conduct EMOC review and documentation, and manage chemical inventory (SARA Reporting).
  • Work with Staff on new projects with air impacts.
  • Take ownership of the relevant environmental and sustainability components within the site's E&S Management System.
  • Identify environmental aspects, hazards, emerging requirements, and verify they are managed to acceptable levels of risk or impact.
  • Define the environmental and sustainability risk reduction strategy for the site, lead implementation of the plan, and continuously assess performance effectiveness.
  • Lead the facility's effort to align the E&S operating model with ISO 14001:2026 release.
  • Implement strategies and initiatives to continually improve the effectiveness of E&S programs.
  • Embed K-C's E&S strategies and partner to drive execution.
  • Lead facility initiatives to improve the maturity of environmental and sustainability programs.
  • Collaborate with segment and global teams to ensure consistent application of E&S standards and best practices.
  • Drive facility E&S objectives through pipeline ideation & execution, CPC/Sustainability systems alignment, and calibration with plant & central teams.
  • Deliver Sustainability 2030 goals by incorporating best practices/technologies into plans, KPIs, and budget, including water use reduction, climate emissions reduction, waste elimination, and chemicals of concern elimination.
  • Define E&S objectives for the site and assess the effectiveness of performance.
  • Lead environmental event investigations to ensure thorough root cause evaluations and verify the effective implementation of corrective/preventative actions.
  • Ensure all employees undergo appropriate environmental and sustainability orientation and training programs.
  • Ensure adherence of contractors to relevant K-C standards and E&S requirements.
  • Implement E&S rollouts of next generation digital, reporting, and assurance within the site to drive resource efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Utilize digital systems/platforms to conduct analysis of environmental and sustainability data, ensuring data integrity.
  • Leverage data and digital systems/platforms to improve decision-making and problem-solving.
  • Address technological advancements, such as automation, as relevant to tasks/duties of the role.
  • Provide insights and recommend improvement actions based on data analysis.
