About The Position

Hard Rock Digital is seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer for a long-term B2B engagement to help build and scale the internal developer platform powering their gaming and entertainment products. This role focuses on platform engineering, designing and building self-service workflows, golden paths, and developer tooling on top of Backstage, their chosen internal developer platform (IDP). The engineer will collaborate with product engineering teams to address their pain points and create self-serve capabilities for provisioning, CI/CD, environments, and observability, ensuring security and compliance. A key aspect of this role is the fluent use of AI coding assistants, agentic tooling, and LLM-powered workflows to accelerate platform development and automate tasks.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in DevOps, Platform Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, or similar roles.
  • At least 2 years in a senior or lead capacity.
  • Hands-on experience building or operating an internal developer platform (IDP)—Backstage strongly preferred.
  • Track record of designing self-service workflows and golden paths.
  • Expert-level knowledge of AWS services and cloud-native architectures.
  • Strong experience with Kubernetes (EKS preferred), Docker, and Helm.
  • Advanced Infrastructure as Code (IaC) expertise using Terraform/Terragrunt.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation using Python, Bash, TypeScript/ Node.js.
  • Experience leading CI/CD initiatives and designing scalable, self-service delivery pipelines.
  • Strong understanding of observability practices and performance monitoring frameworks.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of networking, security hardening, and compliance in regulated industries.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction.
  • Demonstrated fluency with AI development tools (e.g. Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar).

Nice To Haves

  • AWS Professional Certification (Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer, or SysOps Administrator) strongly preferred.
  • Practical experience integrating AI assistants into infrastructure workflows, platform tooling, code review, incident response, or documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and operate the internal developer platform on Backstage, including software catalog, templates, plugins, and scorecards.
  • Create golden-path templates and self-service workflows (Backstage Software Templates, Terraform/Terragrunt modules, CI/CD scaffolding) for product teams.
  • Architect and implement scalable AWS and hybrid-cloud infrastructure using Terraform/Terragrunt and Infrastructure as Code tools.
  • Design, build, and optimize highly available containerized environments using EKS, Kubernetes, and Docker.
  • Lead the automation strategy for CI/CD pipelines (TeamCity, GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, and similar).
  • Champion security and compliance by design, embedding guardrails, identity/access controls, and policy-as-code into the self-service platform.
  • Partner with product engineering, SRE, QA, security, and operations teams to identify friction points and convert them into platform capabilities.
  • Define and track developer experience (DevEx) and platform adoption metrics.
  • Leverage AI tools fluently as a core part of the daily workflow, using AI coding assistants, agentic automation, and LLM-powered tooling.
