About The Position

Corning Incorporated is hiring a Senior Engineer, Controls in Corning, NY. This is a full-time onsite role that typically works Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week, with flexibility as needed to support project objectives. Travel averages approximately 50%, although actual travel may increase or decrease depending on project phase and business needs. Travel is primarily domestic to support multiple locations, and international travel may be required. Relocation assistance is available. This role may also be based in Charlotte, Hickory, or Wilmington, NC depending on business needs. You'll work alongside experienced engineers, plant teams, and system integrators — building the kind of multi-site, multi-phase project experience that seriously accelerates a controls engineering career.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of professional, non-academic experience in industrial controls, automation, or machine control engineering.
  • Experience with PLC programming in platforms such as Rockwell / Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or Omron.
  • Experience with control systems design, HMI development, and closed-loop control systems.
  • Knowledge of electrical schematics, industrial networking, and controls integration in manufacturing, OEM, or system integration environments.
  • Must be available for significant travel, primarily domestic, to support project build, installation, and commissioning activities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting automation projects through design, integration, startup, or commissioning.
  • Experience with FactoryTalk View, Ignition, iFix, or Optix.
  • Knowledge of EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT, Profinet, or related industrial communication protocols.
  • Experience with PID controls, control loop tuning, robotics, or machine vision.
  • Familiarity with tools or languages such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, C#, Python, HTML, or MATLAB.
  • Experience in manufacturing environments or working with machine builders or system integrators.

Responsibilities

  • Support controls engineering projects through design, build, installation, startup, and commissioning phases.
  • Develop and modify PLC and HMI programs for manufacturing equipment and automation systems.
  • Participate in the development of control architectures, functional specifications, and system integration requirements based on process and manufacturing needs.
  • Work with internal engineering teams, plant personnel, and external system integrators or machine builders to deliver automation solutions.
  • Review and interpret electrical schematics, panel layouts, and controls documentation; support updates during project execution.
  • Assist with offline testing, equipment integration, field installation, and production startup support.
  • Troubleshoot controls and automation issues related to programming, integration, and system performance.
  • Support industrial networking and communications required for machine and system integration.
  • Document engineering work, project updates, and technical results to support execution and handoff.
