Senior Engineer, Applied AI
About The Position
Collectors is seeking a Senior Applied AI Engineer to join their Applied AI team. This is an embedded, build-first role where the engineer will work within business teams to identify high-value problems and develop AI solutions from start to finish. The role emphasizes rapid prototyping, defining success in business terms, and owning the entire lifecycle of AI solutions from initial demo to measured impact. This is not a traditional software engineering role; it requires product-minded builders who can communicate effectively with business stakeholders, deploy AI in real-world scenarios, and demonstrate tangible value. The engineer will receive technical guidance from a principal engineer and support from a platform team for shared infrastructure. The position reports to the Head of Applied AI, and remote or hybrid candidates are considered, though in-person collaboration is valued.
Requirements
- A builder with a passion for making things and a bias toward shipping.
- Product-minded, starting from the business outcome and defining success before writing code.
- Shipped an end-to-end agent or AI-powered solution to real users.
- Power user of AI models like Claude, OpenAI, or similar.
- Fluent at turning business pain into working software and comfortable embedded in non-technical teams.
- Technically capable across the stack, able to prototype full-stack, wire up APIs, and build agents independently.
- Outcome-obsessed, measuring impact in business value and metrics.
- Resilient and trust-building, thriving in ambiguous and fast-changing environments.
- A clear communicator, comfortable with operators, engineers, and executives.
- Experienced and self-directed with a multi-year track record of owning projects end-to-end.
- A continuous learner, actively tracking the latest models, tools, and techniques.

- Go from problem to working prototype in days.
- Define success up front and prove it.
- Build and ship AI solutions end-to-end.
- Operate as a power user of frontier AI, using tools like Claude and OpenAI.

- Communicate across the gap between operators, engineers, and leadership.
