About The Position

CodeGreen is seeking a Senior Energy Engineer to join our Sustainability team in New York. The role reports to the Associate Director. At CodeGreen, our Higher Performing Buildings team helps clients improve the safety, efficiency, sustainability, and resilience of their facilities. By combining expertise in building science, energy performance, building performance standards, sustainability regulations, and asset optimization, we help organizations make informed decisions that enhance occupant well-being, reduce risk, and maximize long-term value. This role supports that mission by delivering solutions that improve building performance and contribute to healthier, more sustainable, and higher-performing environments. As a senior member of our Energy Engineering team, you’ll play a key role in energy audits, report delivery, reviews of work done by more junior team members, and client engagement – helping our clients make their buildings greener and more efficient.

Requirements

6+ years experience
BS in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering strongly preferred, related degrees in “Building Science”, “Energy Engineering”, or others may be accepted if a list of courses is provided.
Intermediate or advanced knowledge of MS Excel
Ability to use MS Word and MS PPT to create basic reports and slides to communication
Basic writing skills (grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure). A writing sample from current work may be asked for during the interview process.

Nice To Haves

Passing of the Engineer in Training (E.I.T) exam a plus but not required
Certified Energy Manager (CEM) a plus but not required
Professional Engineering degree a plus but not required

Responsibilities

Utility Analysis
Collecting equipment data on site audits
Producing indoor air quality testing and ventilation rate procedure calculations in accordance with ASHRAE 62.1
Basic savings calculations such as LED lighting upgrades, motor replacements, installation of VFDs, etc.
Intermediate calculations that include central energy plants, renewables, and coordinating with energy modelers on more complex measures.
Advanced calculations on all energy types and systems, with some oversight from more senior engineers.
Performing energy auditing and retro-commissioning in accordance with LL87 in NYC
Performing ASHRAE Level 1 and 2 without oversight
Performing ASHRAE Level 3 energy audits with oversight
Building and improving advanced spreadsheet models and calculators
Managing Energy Model work deliverables including calibration, code compliance, design assistance, LEED and ULEB projects.
Installing and using testing equipment and analyzing data collected
Producing written energy efficiency reports for review by more senior engineers or management.
Performing research into new technologies and remaining up to date on industry trends
Leads client meetings and provides project status updates on conference calls and through e-mail without oversight.
Program manages large engagements with clients covering multiple buildings and multiple scopes of work.
Performs basic financial analysis (Cash flows, ROI, etc.) with some oversight.
