Senior EMC/EMI Engineer

CesiumAstro•Westminster, CO

About The Position

CesiumAstro is hiring an experienced Senior EMI/EMC Engineer I to join its engineering team in the aerospace and defense industry. The role focuses on ensuring phased array communication systems meet EMI/EMC requirements and standards. The engineer will collaborate with design, test, and systems engineering teams to develop, analyze, and implement control strategies that protect product integrity and performance in harsh environments. The Skylark product line designs, builds, and tests active phased array antennas for terrestrial and airborne applications, spanning large-scale ground terminals for missile defense and connectivity solutions for commercial aircraft and helicopters. Applicants must meet U.S. Government Space Technology Export Regulations eligibility requirements: be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, conditional resident, asylee, or refugee, or be eligible to obtain the required U.S. Department of State authorizations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of EMI/EMC engineering experience, preferably in aerospace and defense.
  • Deep understanding of EMI/EMC principles, standards, and regulations, such as MIL-STD-461, DO-160, and ECSS.
  • Experience with EMI/EMC test equipment and tools, such as spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and antennas.
  • Proficiency with electromagnetic simulation software, such as CST Studio Suite, ANSYS HFSS, or FEKO.
  • Knowledge of circuit- and system-level EMI/EMC mitigation, including shielding, filtering, and grounding techniques.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Must satisfy U.S. Government Space Technology Export Regulations eligibility requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with EMI/EMC compliance for communication systems, particularly phased arrays.
  • Strong experience in EMI/EMC test planning and execution.
  • EMI/EMC certification, such as Certified EMC Engineer.
  • Familiarity with systems engineering practices and tools, such as Jama or DOORS.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement EMI/EMC control plans, analyze designs for potential interference, and recommend mitigations.
  • Provide technical guidance to design teams on EMI/EMC considerations and compliance with applicable standards and performance requirements.
  • Plan, coordinate, and conduct EMI/EMC testing for electronics modules and phased array communication systems, including preparing test plans, defining test setups, and performing tests to applicable standards.
  • Use electromagnetic simulation tools to model fields and predict potential interference at component, subsystem, and system levels.
  • Ensure products meet regulatory and industry EMI/EMC requirements, including documentation, certification, and stakeholder reporting.
  • Investigate EMI/EMC issues, conduct root cause analyses, and develop corrective actions for non-compliance or performance shortfalls.
  • Prepare reports and technical documentation, including test results, compliance matrices, and design guidelines.
  • Lead improvements to EMI/EMC design practices, testing methodologies, and tools.
