Senior Embedded Software Engineer, Viasat Government
About The Position
The Senior Embedded Software Engineer will join Viasat Government’s High Assurance Encryption Systems team to develop software for encrypted communications systems, including Layer 2 and Layer 3 In-line Network Encryptors, embedded cryptographic devices, and emerging cryptographic solutions. The role is suited to an engineer experienced in Rust who is eager to contribute to a small, fast-paced team. The engineer will collaborate with system, test, and hardware engineers as capabilities are developed and transitioned into service. The team helps clarify requirements and continuously supports development, integration, automation, testing, and product certification. This is an onsite role at the listed locations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience using C/C++ in embedded environments.
- Experience using Linux OS, ideally in an embedded environment.
- Object-oriented software development experience.
- Basic understanding of TCP/IP.
- Agile Scrum development experience.
- U.S. citizenship and an active SECRET or TOP SECRET security clearance.
- Ability to travel up to 10%.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with the Rust programming language.
- Familiarity with Linux kernel driver development or modifications.
- Familiarity with bare-metal embedded device drivers.
- Experience with microprocessors and embedded processors, such as NIOS, ARM, or RISC-V.
- Experience with emulation environments.
- Experience with networking protocols such as IPSec, MACsec, or TLS.
- Experience with Python.
- Familiarity with standalone embedded applications.
- Experience participating in multidisciplinary teams.
