About The Position

Eaton’s ES AMER ESS division is currently seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer. This role is based out of Raleigh, NC. We are seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to support the maintenance, reliability, and continuous improvement of UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) products throughout their lifecycle. This role will focus on embedded software support, communication protocol implementation and maintenance, troubleshooting, and sustaining engineering activities for commercial and industrial UPS systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting fielded products, investigating and resolving complex system issues, implementing software enhancements, and ensuring the long-term reliability, maintainability, and performance of UPS platforms.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 3 years of industry experience developing or supporting embedded software for industrial, power electronics, or UPS products.
  • Experience developing embedded software in C/C++.
  • Experience troubleshooting and supporting released embedded products.
  • Experience performing root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary product development environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Experience with UPS, power conversion, power electronics, or electrical power system products.
  • Experience integrating and troubleshooting communication protocols in embedded systems.
  • Experience with CAN, CANopen, RS-485, Ethernet, and related industrial communication protocols.
  • Experience with real-time embedded operating systems.
  • Knowledge of power electronics, inverter systems, converters, and energy management systems.
  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink and model-based development.
  • Experience supporting products through the full product lifecycle, including manufacturing and field support.
  • Familiarity with UL, IEC, and industry standards applicable to UPS systems.
  • Experience with Software Configuration Management and Git-based development workflows.
  • Experience with LLM coding tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, or similar software development productivity tools.
  • Experience with Hardware in the Loop systems such as OPAL RT or Typhoon

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, test, and support embedded software for UPS products.
  • Troubleshoot software, communication, and system-level issues identified in manufacturing, testing, and field deployments.
  • Investigate and resolve customer-reported and field-observed software issues.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventative actions for product issues.
  • Support software releases, patches, and firmware updates for released products.
  • Maintain and enhance communication interfaces between UPS controllers, network management devices, and external systems.
  • Collaborate with controls, systems, hardware, quality, manufacturing, and service engineering teams to resolve product issues.
  • Participate in software architecture reviews, design reviews, and code reviews to ensure maintainability of existing platforms.
  • Develop software requirements, design documentation, test procedures, and validation reports.
  • Support laboratory testing, validation, and product qualification activities involving UPS systems and power electronic equipment.
  • Analyze product performance data and field feedback to drive continuous product improvements.
  • Contribute to cybersecurity, reliability, obsolescence management, and product lifecycle maintenance initiatives.
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing, field service, and customer support organizations.
