About The Position

Xylem, a Fortune 500 global water solutions company, is seeking a Senior Hardware Engineer for its Sensus brand. This role focuses on the design and development of advanced electromagnetic and ultrasonic water metering products. The ideal candidate will be adept at solving complex measurement challenges, developing low-power embedded hardware, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to create products with long-term reliability. The position involves leading hardware development from conception through production, including architecture, schematic design, PCB development, prototyping, validation, and manufacturing support. The engineer will design various circuit types for battery-powered embedded systems and serve as the technical lead for metrology hardware, specifically supporting electromagnetic and ultrasonic measurement technologies. Collaboration with firmware, systems, mechanical, test, and manufacturing teams is crucial for optimizing performance, reliability, power consumption, and cost. The role also includes developing and executing test plans for accuracy, noise performance, environmental robustness, and long-term reliability, as well as mentoring junior engineers and participating in technical reviews and continuous improvement efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 5–10+ years of hardware design experience.
  • Experience with low-power embedded systems and sensor-based products.
  • Strong analog and mixed-signal design skills.
  • Experience with schematic capture and PCB design tools (Altium preferred).
  • Hands-on experience with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and power measurement tools.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with DSP, signal acquisition, filtering, and noise reduction.
  • Background in water, gas, utility, industrial, or smart metering products.
  • Familiarity with electromagnetic or ultrasonic sensing technologies.
  • Experience designing products intended for 15–20+ year field life.

Responsibilities

  • Lead hardware development from concept through production, including architecture, schematic design, PCB development, prototyping, validation, and manufacturing support.
  • Design analog, digital, mixed-signal, power, and sensor interface circuits for battery-powered embedded systems.
  • Serve as the technical lead for metrology hardware, supporting electromagnetic and ultrasonic measurement technologies.
  • Collaborate with firmware, systems, mechanical, test, and manufacturing teams to optimize performance, reliability, power consumption, and cost.
  • Develop and execute test plans focused on accuracy, noise performance, environmental robustness, and long-term reliability.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
