Electrical Engineer Senior

Lynntech, Inc.•College Station, TX

About The Position

Lynntech is seeking an experienced electronics engineer to develop custom electronic hardware, embedded firmware, and integrated electrical systems for prototype products in the defense, aerospace, and medical markets. The role spans the product development lifecycle, from early-stage proof-of-concept through prototype development and testing to qualification of production-ready designs. The engineer develops multidisciplinary electrical solutions, including embedded firmware and software, custom circuit boards, integration of custom and commercial components, design for manufacturability, and system verification and validation. The position combines theoretical engineering and hands-on lab validation, with projects ranging from breadboard proof-of-concepts to minimum viable products. In addition to technical execution, the senior engineer may lead project teams, mentor other engineers, collaborate on proposals, support customer and technology-transition activities, and help advance new technologies. Lynntech describes varied long-term opportunities to grow as a technical expert or take on project, personnel, or other leadership roles.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field and at least 5 years of progressively complex engineering experience, or a master’s degree and at least 2 years of experience.
  • Strong fundamentals in electrical, electronics, and software engineering, with ability to review and provide feedback on peers’ designs and develop original designs.
  • Experience designing electronic hardware and embedded systems, including circuit design, PCB development, power management, component selection, and integration of sensors, actuators, and control electronics based on product requirements and technology constraints.
  • Ability to mentor junior engineers and autonomously facilitate design decisions in a collaborative environment.
  • Strong technical writing, speaking, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment and interact closely with engineers and scientists across the company.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident to meet project contract requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field with 6–8 years of progressively complex engineering experience, or a master’s degree with 4–6 years of experience, preferably in a technology-development-oriented industrial setting.
  • Extensive technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice, including ability to organize, plan, schedule, and conduct tasks to meet deadlines or milestones.
  • Basic systems-engineering knowledge and ability to interface with teams across the technology-to-product-development lifecycle, including scientific personnel, CAD, mechanical engineering, instrumentation, controls, machining and fabrication, and system assembly and testing.
  • Experience with signal processing.
  • Understanding of machine-learning algorithms.
  • Experience in electronics engineering design, embedded microcontroller programming, FPGA development, or similar relevant education and experience.
  • Knowledge of communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, serial, USB, CAN, and TCP/IP.
  • Programming experience in C/C++, C#, Java, Kotlin, Python, VHDL, or related languages.
  • SPICE modeling applied to analog and digital circuit development.
  • Knowledge and experience in power-supply design, embedded processor solutions, filtering, and data-acquisition development, including A/D and D/A conversion.
  • Hardware development experience, including schematics, layout, and testing for analog and digital designs.
  • Knowledge and experience with PCB design methods and tools such as Altium Designer.
  • Firmware-development experience with microcontrollers such as PIC32, ARM, or MSP430.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex embedded systems.
  • Experience managing component lifecycle, obsolescence, alternatives, supplier risk, and traceability for systems in defense, aerospace, medical, or other regulated applications.
  • Working knowledge of general mechanical and software development constraints to collaborate with team members in those functions.
  • Experience with technical writing and grantsmanship.

Responsibilities

  • Design electrical system architecture and integrate custom electronics with commercial off-the-shelf components, including power supplies, motor drivers, sensors, actuators, communication devices, connectors, and industrial control hardware.
  • Develop system wiring diagrams, cable and wire-harness designs, interface-control documentation, and power-management architecture.
  • Design and model schematics for analog and digital circuits.
  • Design and test custom printed circuit boards for analog and digital applications.
  • Create custom firmware implementations for test fixtures, prototype designs, and marketable products.
  • Mature prototype electrical systems into reproducible and supportable product designs using component derating, tolerance analysis, design-for-manufacture and design-for-test practices, environmental considerations, and verification against system requirements.
  • Work with customers, end users, business-development personnel, and manufacturing partners to translate operational needs into technical requirements and technology development strategies.
  • Collaborate with scientists and engineers on grant proposals for new technologies and continued development of core technologies.
