About The Position

The Internal Services Department (ISD) plays a major role in supporting all County of Los Angeles departments and commissions. With an annual budget of over $905 million and 2,158 budgeted positions along with over 5,120 contracted workers of varying professions in facilities management, information technology, environmental, administrative, purchasing and contracting. This position is responsible for assigning, leading, and inspecting the work of Electronics Communications Technicians engaged in the maintenance, repair, testing, configuration, and installation of fixed, mobile, and portable radio communications and related equipment. The role involves laying out jobs, estimating labor and material requirements, and providing assistance for complex trouble calls and installations. The Senior Technician also confers with vendors and other County departments regarding operational issues and provides instruction on work techniques and technological developments. Ensuring compliance with safety regulations and maintaining records are also key aspects of this role. The position requires performing the work of an Electronics Communications Technician and driving automotive equipment to work sites.

Requirements

Two years of journey-level experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of radio communications transmitting and receiving equipment.
Journey-level experience is defined as possessing the required knowledge, skills, and training to perform a full-range and diversity of work independently and reliably.
Positions at this level operate with fairly significant freedom from day-to-day supervision and need little or no guidance on such matters as selecting appropriate problem-solving methods and techniques, locating appropriate regulations, or applying proper procedures to carry out work.
A valid California Class C Driver License is required.
A General Radiotelephone Operator License issued by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is required.
Vision and color perception must be adequate to effectively and safely perform essential job-related functions.

Responsibilities

Assigns, leads, and inspects the work of Electronics Communications Technicians engaged in the maintenance, repair, testing, configuration, and installation of fixed, mobile, and portable radio communications and related equipment.
Lays out jobs and estimates labor and material requirements.
Provides assistance for the more complex trouble calls and installations and follows up to ensure that problems are resolved.
Confers and consults with vendors and other County department representatives regarding operational problems, repair, maintenance, and installation of radio communications and related equipment.
Provides instruction in work techniques, equipment operation, and technological developments.
Ensures compliance with safety regulations, and that safe work practices are observed.
Requests for and orders parts and supplies as needed.
Keeps time, material, and service records.
Performs the work of an Electronics Communications Technician.
Drives automotive equipment to and from work sites.
