About The Position

As a Senior Electronic Component Engineer, you will be joining an innovative group with responsibility for sensors used on almost every Caterpillar engine and machine. Our work includes concept, specification, selection, validation and support of a broad family including pressure, temperature, speed, payload, emissions, and wireless sensors. You will learn valuable skills with opportunity to strengthen problem solving, leadership, and communication while balancing multiple projects concurrently. Both electrical and mechanical technical skills are used while engaging engineers from outside suppliers, and all-around Caterpillar.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Engineering curriculum plus 4+ years of electronic component, electrical system engineering or packaging work OR a Master’s degree in an accredited Engineering curriculum plus 2+ years of electronic component or electrical system and software engineering.
  • Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
  • Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
  • Assists in detailed project plans including cost, schedule, and resource requirements.
  • Knowledge of electronics engineering; ability to design, test and manufacture electronic circuits, components and devices.
  • Anticipates the challenges and opportunities associated with designing sensors to meet performance requirements for EMC, vibration, and sealing.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to utilize design tools (e.g. CAD) to convert customer and market requirements into a product design.
  • Monitors each phase of the design procedure to ensure overall operation meets standards.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing compliance with development processes and regulations for electrical and electronic systems and components.
  • Investigating and troubleshooting all technical issues related to electrical and electronic systems and components.
  • Managing and negotiating with electrical and electronic equipment vendors for the development of systems and components.
  • Mentoring craftsmen, technicians and engineers in the development of electrical and electronic systems and components.
