About The Position

The Senior Electro-Mechanical Engineer will play a critical role in driving the development and integration of mechanical and electrical systems in Milwaukee Tool's cutting-edge electric power tools and equipment. This position is integral to the creation of industry-changing products that redefine performance and durability. The role involves leading technical initiatives focusing on thermal management, cost optimization, and design-for-manufacturing (DFM), conducting detailed design reviews, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and analyzing materials and processes. The engineer will also support production troubleshooting and implement continuous improvements. Key areas of focus include cost optimization through DFX strategies, thermal management and performance optimization, research and development of new technologies, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure system reliability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in electro-mechanical systems design and integration.
  • Expertise in thermal management, PCB layout optimization, cost optimization initiatives, and DFX principles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with knowledge of FEA, DOE, FMEA, and GD&T.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (ProE, Solidworks, NX, or similar).
  • Experience with PCBA manufacturing processes and various processes such as injection molding, stamping, soldering, and welding.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical initiatives focusing on thermal management, cost optimization, and design-for-manufacturing (DFM).
  • Conduct detailed design reviews, providing critical input to improve functionality and manufacturability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate components into cohesive designs while meeting performance specifications.
  • Analyze and recommend materials and processes to ensure compliance with quality and durability standards.
  • Support production troubleshooting and implement continuous improvements.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize material, component, and production costs while maintaining product quality.
  • Implement Design for Excellence (DFX) strategies, including design-for-manufacturing and design-for-assembly, to enhance efficiency across the product lifecycle.
  • Partner with suppliers and procurement teams to ensure cost-effective sourcing and manufacturing processes through automation or design practices.
  • Drive initiatives to optimize component selection and improve assembly processes to minimize variation and enhance reliability.
  • Lead the development of best practices for airflow and thermal management.
  • Conduct thermal simulations and provide expert insights to optimize PCB layout and material selection.
  • Develop and maintain a thermal performance guide to ensure product requirements are met.
  • Investigate new materials, technologies, and simulation tools to advance thermal management.
  • Develop best practices for design packages, ensuring consistent specifications across teams and partners.
  • Serve as a bridge between Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, and Advanced Groups, recommending optimized solutions.
  • Establish and enforce ESD and EMC best practices to enhance system reliability.
