About The Position

Ingersoll Rand Power Tools is seeking an Electro-Mechanical Engineer dedicated to new product development in Hampton, NJ. This role involves designing, engineering, and manufacturing cordless and corded electric power tools for assembly, industrial, and vehicle repair markets. The engineer will collaborate with global cross-functional teams, including software, firmware, electrical, and mechanical engineers, as well as strategic sourcing partners, quality, operations, and product management. Responsibilities include developing new power tool concepts, creating prototypes, testing, and finalizing designs for commercial launch. The ideal candidate is a team player, capable of managing multiple tasks, communicating clearly, and thriving in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Requirements

  • 4 year degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electro-mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • 10+ years of experience
  • Strong project management skills, particularly with organizing tasks and managing time to complete multiple concurrent assignments.
  • Electronic circuits and electrical design including microprocessors, sensors, wiring, connectors and printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs).
  • Design integration of wireless communication including Wi-Fi 6, 5G Telecom, Zigbee, and Bluetooth.
  • Electronic packaging of PCBAs, switches, actuators, motors, displays, and wireless modules/antennas into electro-mechanical assemblies of power tools.
  • Design for reliability to ensure electrical designs are reliable and meet customer expectations throughout the product's life cycle.
  • Understanding of product design fundamentals at both a component and a system level.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes including machining, injection molding, die casting, investment casting, forging, powder metal, stamping, soldering, SMT, potting, and coating.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems and to make timely decisions with sound judgement.
  • Understanding of tolerance stack-ups and component inspection procedures.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly, effectively and concisely with all roles and all levels within the organization.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment, to take direction, and to direct the work of others including lab technicians, designers, and suppliers.
  • High initiative and the drive to continuously improve.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in PCBA layout and design using Altium experience is preferred.
  • Understanding of electric motor controls is preferred.
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling is a plus. Experience using Windchill PLM software and Creo Parametric (Pro/E) is a plus.
  • Prior experience with cordless power tools is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and enhance mechanical, electrical and electro-mechanical systems for innovative new power tools that meet customer needs and global industry standards.
  • Prepare design concepts for analysis and rapid prototype validation.
  • Lead projects while collaborating with global internal team members, suppliers and operations from conceptual design through production launch.
  • Coordinate and drive the completion of testing. Work closely and cooperatively with lab technicians during test execution to assure that test objectives are met.
  • Develop and maintain documentation including layouts, drawings, specifications, bills of material, test plans, lab reports and technical construction files.
  • Provide support to strategic sourcing partners, manufacturing, customer service, procurement, quality assurance departments and product management.
