Senior Electrical Utility Inspector
About The Position
The Public Utilities Department is seeking a Senior Electrical Utility Inspector to perform complex inspections of contractor, developer or homeowner work related to the transmission and distribution of electrical systems, fiber optic communication systems and construction of lighting systems. This class is distinguished from the class of Electrical Utility Inspector by responsibility for more complex inspections, technical staff assistance and involvement in the training of other electrical utility inspectors. THIS PROMOTIONAL OPPORTUNITY IS OPEN TO ONLY CURRENT FULL TIME OR PART TIME CITY OF ANAHEIM EMPLOYEES ONLY.
Requirements
- Extensive experience in the construction of Electrical Distribution Systems.
- Knowledge of Principles, methods, procedures, materials, equipment and safety requirements and construction standards for electrical transmission and distribution system construction; electrical and civil engineering drawings and plans; mathematics including algebra and geometry; State of California General Orders 95 and 128, State Title #8, National Electrical Code, City of Anaheim Electrical Distribution Systems Specification and Administrative Labor Code; and extensive A.C.-D.C. electrical theory and practice, and High Voltage Safety Requirements.
- Ability to Perform complex electrical utility inspections and provide responsible technical staff assistance; understand and interpret engineering plans and specifications; maintain accurate engineering records; deal assertively and diplomatically with contractors, engineers, property owners and the general public; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; understand and interpret a variety of codes and ordinances; operate a computer, write reports, and operate a sophisticated underground cable locating device.
- Possession of a valid California Driver’s License by date of appointment.
Responsibilities
- Locate and mark underground/overhead electrical facilities presently in place or operation (Underground Service Alerts) to avoid damage or disruption to city electrical system.
- Plan and provide for contractors needs on major construction projects (i.e. system clearances, work permits, materials, etc).
- Assist in the reviewing of reports, records and field work for accuracy and completeness; assist in providing training in accordance with staff needs.
- Provide technical staff assistance in difficult inspections and special projects.
- Conduct the more complex and difficult inspections of existing or new construction of residential, commercial and industrial electrical distribution systems and street light systems.
- Respond to difficult inquiries and complaints; analyze requests and provide recommendations.
- Participate in pre-construction conferences with designers and contractors to communicate inspection expectations, requirements, directions and explanation of processes based on the design needs expressed in the meeting.
- Prepare and maintain technical records and reports.
- Confer with property owners, and coordinate service interruptions to minimize inconvenience for system customers.
- Assist electrical designers in collecting construction information and identify problems with materials and construction methods in preliminary design field trips, prior to design drawings, provide recommendations.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
