About The Position

Smurfit Westrock is seeking a Senior Electrical Reliability Engineer for their Evadale, TX facility. This role is responsible for investigating and resolving electrical reliability issues, collaborating with maintenance teams, mill leadership, production, and corporate reliability groups. The engineer will also identify and resolve safety and reliability opportunities for electrical assets and assist in outage and shutdown execution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering is preferred.
  • 5+ years of work experience in electrical engineering in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of safe electrical work practices and understanding of industry codes.
  • Knowledge and experience with three-phase electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of AC and DC electric motors, motor controls, and electrical protection schemes.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation, PLCs, and controls.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Familiarity with CMMS systems such as SAP, Passport, or JDE.
  • Knowledge of relay coordination, arc flash hazard, and short circuit analysis is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of critical Electrical Systems and Equipment, including power generation and distribution, transformers, switchgear, protection relays, motors, VFDs, UPS systems, grounding, lighting, and cathodic protection.
  • Collaborate with maintenance teams (Mechanical and Electrical), Mill Leadership, Production, Corporate Reliability Group (EMS), third-party contractors, and SMEs to identify and resolve safety and reliability issues related to electrical assets.
  • Provide technical expertise to enhance electrical equipment reliability through evaluation and redesign of equipment and systems.
  • Improve the integrity and reliability of all low, medium, and high voltage electrical installations, systems, and equipment.
  • Develop engineering solutions for repetitive failures and other issues impacting plant equipment operations, manage projects, and perform troubleshooting.
  • Support training programs for maintenance and operations personnel on the safe and reliable operation and maintenance of plant power distribution systems.
  • Lead or support Root Cause Analysis (RCA) efforts, compile recommendations, and manage implementation and follow-up.
  • Support the development and optimization of Preventive Maintenance (PM) and Predictive Maintenance (PDM) strategies for electrical equipment to ensure reliability and availability.
  • Assist in outage planning, including developing electrical work scopes and execution plans.
  • Design and implement long-term continuous improvement projects and systems to enhance electrical reliability.
  • Participate in weekend call support on a rotating basis.
  • Stay current with electrical standards, techniques, and practices, including NEC and NFPA70E.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain synchronous motors.
  • Lead the electrical cold mill outage team, including temporary power setup and execution.
