About The Position

The Senior Electrical Estimator is responsible for estimating and costing assigned controls and switchgear projects. As an integral part of the Power Systems team, this role will review specifications from an engineering and commercial perspective and develop solutions with the assistance of the various Power Systems market segment teams. The position is full-time and permanent.

Requirements

  • Engineering Degree from accredited University (B.Eng), Certified Engineering Technologist (CET), or combination of Technical Education and experience.
  • Safety conscious with 10-15 years demonstrated ability as an Electrical Designer of switchgear and controls.
  • Bilingual in French and English Oral and Written is a requirement.
  • Experience in Project Management/Project Costing and knowledge of generators and generator paralleling applications is extremely beneficial.
  • Past controls design experience and knowledge of various PLC manufacture platforms such as Allen Bradley, Schneider, GE is a requirement.
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage and balance multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to take ownership and accountability for decisions made.
  • Solid business acumen and an ability to balance technical and commercial drivers.
  • Consultative interpersonal and effective communication skills to collaborate with Account Managers, Design Team, Manufacturing, Purchasing and Customers.
  • Strategic with a mindset for continuous improvement, strong organization and planning skills.
  • High aptitude for delivering results in a fast-paced, demanding, deadline-driven environment with constantly changing priorities.
  • Extremely computer literate with proficiencies in contact management and MS Office Applications.

Nice To Haves

  • Hold a Professional Engineering License in the province they are working in is an asset.
  • Ability to use AutoCad Electrical as needed.
  • Knowledge of generators and generator paralleling applications is extremely beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate safe and healthy work behaviors at all times in support of Toromont’s Health and Safety Policy, Programs and initiatives.
  • Review specifications and balance technical/commercial drivers to meet customer requirements and Company objectives.
  • Investigate product applications to recommend course of action best for customer expectations.
  • Act as a technical consultant to the team and the customer.
  • Generate Common Controls estimate packages and description used for Account Managers and proposals.
  • Create technical overview of controls and switchgear options by generating control narratives and single line diagrams.
  • Communicate effectively and meet regularly with the team to review projects and workload.
  • Manage day-to-day direction from the Controls and Electrical Services Manager and Account Managers.
  • Prepare cost estimates for bidding purposes aligned with the evaluation of specification and/or customer requirements and agreed upon strategy with the team and submit to customers.
