Requirements

  • BS in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or equivalent (MS Preferred)
  • Minimum of 6 years of related experience in sustaining, field support, or reliability engineering for complex electronic products
  • Strong hands on troubleshooting skills at the circuit and system level; experience with oscilloscope, logic analyzer, and precision measurement tools.
  • Demonstrated experience reading and modifying schematics, PCB layouts, and BOMs; board level rework and component level diagnostics.
  • Proven track record leading failure investigations and executing CAPAs using structured root cause methodologies (5 Whys, fishbone, etc.).
  • Experience with electrical design tools (Altium or equivalent) and familiarity with test/program development.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills; ability to produce concise technical reports and to work effectively with cross functional teams.
  • Analytical problem solving and strong attention to detail.
  • Customer focus and the ability to manage escalations calmly and decisively.
  • Project and time management: prioritize multiple sustaining issues and deliver timely fixes.
  • Collaborative influence across engineering, quality, manufacturing, and service functions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in regulated industries (medical devices, aerospace, industrial controls) and familiarity with design control and change management.
  • Embedded systems experience and ability to collaborate on firmware/RTOS issues (QNX, Linux) and C/C++/Python code review for diagnostics.
  • Background in reliability testing, accelerated life testing, environmental stress screening, and FMEA.
  • Prior experience supporting field service organizations and interacting with external customers during escalations.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical EE lead for the Impella console: hands on circuit-level troubleshooting, board bring up, and design updates to product hardware.
  • Lead failure investigations and product escalations (internal test failures and customer complaints), perform root cause analysis, and generate clear corrective plans.
  • Own CAPA activities from investigation through verification and closure; ensure documentation meets quality and regulatory expectations.
  • Diagnose and repair PCBAs to component level (analog, digital, mixed signal, power, and interfaces) using lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, power supplies).
  • Design, prototype, validate, and roll out production ready fixes (hardware changes, firmware patches, test updates) that reduce field returns and improve reliability.
  • Develop and maintain test procedures, and verification and validation protocols.
  • Collaborate cross functionally with manufacturing, quality, field service, firmware/software, and suppliers to implement fixes and prevent recurrence (DFx, supplier corrective actions).
  • Support service and field teams with technical guidance, remote troubleshooting, and on site investigations when required.
  • Contribute to reliability and root cause verification testing, and help refine production test strategies and diagnostic coverage.
  • Participate in design reviews and transfer activities for next generation console products as a supporting engineer.
  • Mentoring junior engineers and technicians.
