Senior Electrical Engineer positions supervise and coordinate the work of subordinates engaged in the design, review, and construction of proposed building and right-of-way electrical facility projects to ensure compliance with local, state, and national electrical ordinances, codes, and regulations; electrical asset management; research and determine the acceptability of new materials and methods of construction; attend meetings and make presentations; prepare information bulletins; develop and write applicable codes; prepare reports and correspondence; and perform other duties as assigned. Senior Electrical Engineer positions in the Public Utilities Department provide detailed electrical engineering design review for the department’s Capital Improvement Program; review electrical engineering design plans and specifications and complete technical studies for water and wastewater facility projects and systems; coordinate the department’s renewable energy portfolio including identification of new projects and expansion of renewables; provide technical assistance; monitor and track energy usage data to identify trends and ways to reduce energy usage and cost; and prepare and monitor budget for section and/or electrical projects. Eligible benefitted employees originally hired on or after July 10, 2021, will be automatically enrolled in the San Diego City Employees Retirement System (SDCERS). Senior Electrical Engineer employees with valid State of California registration as a Professional Electrical Engineer are eligible for 31% additional pay.
