About The Position

Trimble is looking for a passionate problem-solver to help develop next-generation positioning, control, and automation products that connect the digital and physical worlds. In this role, you will be at the forefront of architecting and implementing critical electrical designs for machine control and automation solutions. You will directly influence the performance of cutting-edge inertial sensor technology and IMUs used globally on heavy machinery, collaborating with cross-functional teams to shape the future of autonomous construction and mining. The Trimble Field Systems segment provides solutions to increase precision and productivity in construction tasks by empowering stakeholders to collect accurate information and manage conditions with cutting-edge technology. Caterpillar Trimble Control Technologies (CTCT) is a joint venture under our Field Systems Segment here at Trimble. CTCT develops advanced machine control, guidance, and positioning systems for the heavy construction, earthmoving, and mining industries. By combining Trimble's precision positioning technologies (like GNSS/GPS, lasers, optics, and sonics) with Caterpillar’s heavy machinery expertise, CTCT builds software and hardware that automates and optimizes equipment operations. The core focus of CTCT is Grade Control Solutions (such as the Cat Grade 3D and Trimble Earthworks platforms). These systems give machine operators precise, real-time vertical and horizontal guidance inside the cab, allowing bulldozers, excavators, scrapers, and graders to cut, fill, and level earth to exact 3D design specifications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years of relevant experience in electronic circuit design.
  • Proven expertise in robust electronic circuit research, circuit debugging, and hardware validation testing.
  • Direct experience designing Functional Safety products within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
  • Exceptional communication skills with a track record of authoring precise technical specifications, test plans, and reports.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs), including accelerometers and gyroscopes.
  • Proficiency with engineering tools such as Matlab, SPICE (PSpice) simulation programs, Agile PLM, or Oracle ERP.
  • Familiarity with C and C++ firmware development to assist with cross-functional system integration.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and develop advanced electrical components and circuit designs for next-generation inertial sensor and IMU technologies.
  • Lead high-level circuit analysis, bench validation testing, and proactive risk mitigation strategies for complex engineering challenges.
  • Spearhead the technical resolution of complex hardware problems and drive complete design development documentation from prototype to production.
  • Conduct comprehensive design reviews and collaborate with system, firmware, and validation teams to ensure optimal hardware performance.
  • Accelerate the successful transition of completed products to manufacturing by designing test fixtures and writing key engineering change notices.
