About The Position

The Senior Electrical Engineer will be responsible for coordinating all phases of capital projects, from business justification to start-up. This includes business case development, evaluation and selection of technical alternatives, development of detailed cost estimates and execution plans, design engineering, construction management, commissioning, and start-up. The role involves independently managing small projects or a single major project, with responsibility for budget, schedule, and technical performance. The engineer will also support the skills development of less experienced team members and ensure engagement and alignment from project constituents and team members, including outside resources like engineering partners and contractors. Additionally, the role encompasses overall management of the procurement process, including bid analysis, negotiation, awarding of work, expediting, factory acceptance activities, and resolving contract issues. For major projects engineered by contracted resources, the Senior Electrical Engineer will determine appropriate engineering deliverables and manage contractor processes. The position also involves owning the Equipment Reliability Strategy, including Criticalities Assessment, maintenance strategy development, predictive and preventative maintenance programs, and championing Asset Class Management. Support for core teams includes resolving technical issues, coaching maintenance personnel, and participating in various team initiatives. Failure elimination responsibilities include facilitating Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) and coordinating priorities with operations. The role also involves participation in MWS work, including prioritizing work orders, ensuring indirect work orders and Management of Change are identified, and completing preventive maintenance and annual outage work. Facility plan development, including maintaining a 5-year repair plan and participating in capital plan development, is also part of the role.

Requirements

  • Ten (10) or more years of project management or reliability experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related engineering degree
  • Self-directed and driven, requiring minimum supervision
  • Technical knowledge in DCS, PLC, and power distribution systems. In depth knowledge of one or more areas
  • Leadership skills, managerial courage and execution process
  • Analyze problems and develop solutions independently or with teams
  • Utilize strong organizational skills and strategic planning

  • Experience in a Pulp, Paper or Power facility preferred
  • Engineering management or senior project management preferred

Responsibilities

  • Coordination of all phases of capital project from business justification to start-up including; business case development, evaluation selection of technical alternatives, development of detailed cost estimates and execution plans, design engineering construction management, commissioning and start up.

  • Overall management of the procurement process including bid analysis (commercial and technical). Work with global sourcing and purchasing to coordinate negotiation and awarding of work associated with the procurement of equipment and services, expediting, factory acceptance activities and resolving contract issues.
  • Managing major projects that are engineered by contracted engineering resources, including determining the appropriate engineering deliverables (design and documentation) for assigned projects and management of engineering contractor processes, procedures and workflow.

  • Criticalities Assessment Owner: lead development effort and keep criticalities current
  • Owns maintenance strategy. Reliability Engineers are responsible for defining, developing, administering, and refining the equipment care programs.
  • Predictive Maintenance: develop routes; ensure communication between core team and technician
  • Preventative Maintenance: develop PM mechanics for each area; develop routes and manage the program and communication with core teams
  • Champion Asset Class Management in area – Establish cradle to grave strategy for critical equipment types.
  • Support Core teams: help resolve technical issues or repair procedures as required; coach maintenance FLLs as needed; EDP Oversight; Precision Motor Program; IEPM; MWS Team participation
  • Failure Elimination
  • RCFA Facilitation: champion use of RCFA for the area. Does not lead all RCFA, but ensures engagement of workforce, proper root causes identified, and action items are completed
  • Coordinate priorities with operations
  • MWS Work participation: participate in prioritizing Area work orders; ensure Indirect Work Order / Management of Change identified as required; ensure proper preventive maintenance shutdown work is completed; annual outage work
