About The Position

Sedgman is currently looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our team in the Vancouver, B.C. office.  He/she will act as a technical leader, bridging complex engineering design with field execution. They are responsible for the design, implementation and maintenance of HV, MV, and LV power systems, conducting power studies, ensuring code compliance and managing the project’s deliverables across all project phases (Pre-feasibility, Feasibility, Conceptual and Detailed design), automation and electrical infrastructure for surface or underground operations. The ideal incumbent will ensure safety compliance and will be a mentor and coach to a young and enthusiastic team.    Sedgman is a consulting engineering company in the mining space and is currently experiencing a rapid expansion of their North American offices; they are positioned for growth, and this role is business critical within the organization.      Come join a team of forward thinking, enthusiastic, results-driven and collaborative professionals!!

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Sound knowledge of the mining industry, as well as Canadian regulatory codes and standards
  • Is a Professional Engineer and a Member of EGBC.
  • Will have 15+ years of relevant experience as an electrical engineer, in HV, MV and LV power transmission and distribution systems. Knowledge of both IEEE and IEC standards is an asset.
  • Extensive engineering experience in a design/consultancy/operational environment; previous experience in an industrial processing and/or mining and metals environment is considered an asset
  • Well-developed communication and negotiation skills
  • Proficiency with instrumentation and control systems in industrial applications.
  • Ability to safely and effectively self-manage time, priorities and activities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to work with clients, key stakeholders, contractors, co-workers (technical & non-technical staff) 
  • Strong organizational skills, technical competence and attention to detail 
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada without sponsorship 

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of both IEEE and IEC standards is an asset.
  • previous experience in an industrial processing and/or mining and metals environment is considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Lead the execution of electrical engineering and design for mineral processing projects and associated infrastructure. (may include: industrial processing, precious metals and/or iron ore plants, as well as associated services). 
  • Develop proposals, conceptual designs for Pre-feasibility, Feasibility and Detail engineering design  projects.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to the project teams.
  • Work across a continuous succession of small and large, domestic and international projects as they progress through the project lifecycle - from early concept development, feasibility studies, detailed design, construction, commissioning to operations
  • Liaise with internal and external clients, other discipline professionals, and stakeholders within the industry to ensure the timely, accurate and cost effective delivery of projects.
  • Demonstrate high standard of personal safety and safety in design practices.
