About The Position

This role is for a Senior Electrical Engineer focused on designing and delivering electrical systems for critical infrastructure, specifically water and wastewater facilities. The position is based in the Calgary, Alberta office. The engineer will lead projects, mentor junior staff, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams. A key aspect of the role is to be a primary team member focused on growing the team in a new market.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of electrical consulting design experience in the industrial sector, with a preference for Water & Wastewater experience.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • P.Eng designation in BC or Alberta.
  • Expertise in low- and medium-voltage systems, including switchgear, transformers, MCCs, and VFDs.
  • Proficiency in ETAP, SKM, or EasyPower for power system studies.
  • Knowledge of industrial automation and communication protocols (Profinet, Modbus TCP/IP, DeviceNet).
  • Familiarity with relevant codes and standards, including OESC, OBC, IEEE, ASHRAE, CSA, and OHSA.
  • Valid driver’s licence with a clean abstract.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with City of Calgary engineering and drafting standards is an asset.
  • PE is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver electrical systems for water and wastewater facilities, including power distribution, control systems, communication networks, lighting, fire alarms, and security systems.
  • Prepare proposals, technical memoranda, design reports, and detailed electrical specifications.
  • Engage in project collaboration and meetings with design teams, clients, consultants, and contractors.
  • Collaborate with local utilities and other key players for seamless project execution.
  • Work with equipment manufacturers and suppliers to incorporate design data into drawings and specifications.
  • Provide construction services, including shop drawing reviews, responding to RFIs, change order assessments, and on-site inspections.
  • Conduct engineering analysis and electrical system studies such as arc flash, short circuits, coordination studies, life cycle assessments, and construction cost estimates.
  • Perform site surveys, gather field data, and conduct condition assessments.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, and address challenges.
  • Review design documents for compliance with engineering standards, codes, and best practices.
  • Facilitate collaboration between design and construction teams.
  • Mentor junior staff, fostering their growth and development.
  • Participate in business development activities, including proposal preparation.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned in a dynamic role.
