Senior Electrical Engineer

Red 6•Louisville, CO
•$130,000 - $160,000

About The Position

Red 6 is an innovative Augmented Reality (AR) technology startup leading the way in synthetic air combat training. Our primary technology, supporting our ATARS product, enables pilots to simulate the cognitive challenges of flying while accessing realistic, scalable training in dynamic outdoor environments. We are looking for an experienced Electrical Engineer that is excited to join a growing team and bringing a product to life. You'll support the creation of next generation real-time hardware for a first-of-its-kind airborne augmented reality system. You will be working with a highly motivated cross functional team of engineers and program staff while continuously improving our standards and best practices for an EE group that's still taking shape.

Requirements

  • A BS in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Minium of 5+ years developing complex electrical systems for aerospace, defense, or other high-reliability applications, or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
  • Experience with complex airborne or mission-critical systems.
  • Deep end-to-end expertise developing dense PCBA designs utilizing CPUs, MPUs, GPUs, displays, sensors, and fiber optic communications.
  • Hands-on experience defining electrical interfaces, power architectures, integration strategies, PCBA and flex circuit designs.
  • Experience conducting trade studies, design reviews, root cause analysis, performance analysis, and documentation necessary to transform tough engineering problems into manufacturable solutions.
  • Comfort in the lab with oscilloscopes, power supplies, and spectrum analyzers.
  • The ability to plan, track, and communicate design work against cost and schedule.
  • Strong communication skills and a personality style that encourages open discussions and collaboration. Comfortable presenting, training others, and design reviews.
  • U.S. citizenship, and the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands on military flight hardware development experience, especially taking hardware through qualification and airworthiness and into flight on military aircraft.
  • An MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience with FPGAs, SoCs, SOMs, GPUs, displays, sensors, and test systems.
  • Test software programming and data analysis.
  • PCBA design and circuit simulation experience with Altium.
  • High-speed design experience with DDR3/DDR4, PCIe 3.0/4.0, DisplayPort, USB 3.0, Ethernet, VPX, and rugged computing systems.
  • Knowledge of avionics protocols like MIL-STD-1553, ARINC 429, CAN, or other deterministic architectures.
  • Experience performing troubleshooting, root cause analysis, DFMEA, risk assessment, and performance analyses.
  • A track record designing to military environmental and safety standards, specifically MIL-STD-461 (EMI/EMC) and MIL-STD-810 (environments).
  • Systems engineering ISO/IEEE 15288 and product development lifecycles experience.
  • Comfortable working alone or integrated with diverse cross functional teams.
  • Work with a sense of urgency and confidence; and take personal pride, responsibility and commitment for completing tasks on time in the highest quality manner.

Responsibilities

  • Technically challenging electrical designs including power systems, FPGAs, high speed communication buses, and embedded computer systems.
  • Test systems to ensure the product design meets all performance, quality, and reliability requirements.
  • The product full lifecycle. You'll help develop hardware from requirements through prototype, qualification testing, manufacturing, and then see it fly.
  • As for technical decisions, you get to innovate, run the trade studies, prototype the options, and influence the final design.

Benefits

  • Healthcare, Dental, and Vision (100% coverage for Employees)
  • Paid time off, including vacation, sick, paid holidays, and parental leave
  • Short and Long-Term Disability
  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA)
  • 401(k) Retirement Plan
  • Voluntary Worksite Benefits (Accident, Critical Illness, and Hospital Indemnity)
  • May be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus based on individual and company performance, subject to plan terms.
