About The Position

EquipmentShare is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer specializing in Temporary Power Generation & Energy Systems to join our team at our Corporate Headquarters in Columbia, MO. This role is crucial for leading the design, development, and implementation of temporary power generation facilities and advanced energy systems. The engineer will be responsible for delivering safe, reliable, and efficient electrical power solutions, including generator plants, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), substations, DC control systems, and electrical distribution infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in power generation and utility-scale electrical systems, strong leadership capabilities, and the ability to manage multidisciplinary engineering efforts from concept through commissioning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • At least 10 years of electrical engineering experience in power generation, utility, industrial, or energy infrastructure projects.
  • Extensive knowledge of medium- and low-voltage power systems.
  • Experience designing Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and associated control systems.
  • Experience with substation design, protection and control systems, and utility interconnections.
  • Strong understanding of DC control systems, station batteries, battery chargers, relay logic, and protection circuits.
  • Experience with generator controls, synchronization systems, automatic transfer switches, and switchgear.
  • Working knowledge of SCADA systems, PLCs, HMI platforms, and industrial communication protocols.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to manage multidisciplinary engineering teams and mentor junior engineers.
  • Self-motivated with excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently to project sites (@30% travel) depending on workload.
  • Ability to work safely in industrial, utility, and construction environments.
  • Ability to perform field inspections, commissioning support, and equipment evaluations while adhering to all applicable safety standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Experience with temporary power generation or rental power systems
  • Experience designing microgrids and hybrid energy systems
  • Knowledge of renewable energy integration, including solar PV and hybrid generation systems
  • Familiarity with IEC, NERC, and utility interconnection requirements
  • Experience with protective relays such as SEL, GE, Siemens, ABB, or Schneider Electric
  • Experience with electrical modeling software such as ETAP, SKM PowerTools, EasyPower, AutoCAD Electrical, or equivalent
  • Experience supporting factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), commissioning, and startup activities

Responsibilities

  • Lead the electrical engineering and design of temporary power generation facilities from conceptual design through startup and commissioning.
  • Design medium- and low-voltage electrical distribution systems, including generators, switchgear, transformers, motor control centers, breakers, relaying, and protective devices.
  • Design and integrate Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), including battery technologies, PCS (Power Conversion Systems), energy management systems (EMS), and grid-support applications.
  • Develop electrical designs for substations, including transformer selection, bus arrangements, protection schemes, grounding systems, and utility interconnections.
  • Design DC control systems, station batteries, battery chargers, relay panels, annunciation systems, SCADA interfaces, and auxiliary power systems.
  • Develop one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, protection and control schematics, cable schedules, and construction packages.
  • Perform electrical engineering calculations, including load flow analysis, short-circuit studies, protective relay coordination, arc flash analysis, grounding studies, and voltage drop calculations.
  • Design synchronization and generator paralleling systems for temporary and permanent installations.
  • Develop automatic transfer schemes and control philosophies for critical power applications.
  • Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA, IEEE, NESC, UL, ANSI, and applicable utility standards.
  • Collaborate closely with mechanical engineers to integrate natural gas systems, cooling systems, fuel systems, and auxiliary equipment into complete power generation facilities.
  • Provide engineering leadership throughout project execution, including design reviews, procurement support, construction support, commissioning, and operational troubleshooting.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to engineering and operations teams.
  • Coordinate with project managers, contractors, vendors, utilities, and customers to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies in energy storage, distributed generation, microgrids, and renewable integration to improve system performance and reliability.
