About The Position

Amazon Leo is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite network, aiming to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks, including households, schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies. The program is ambitious, pushing the state of the art in space-based systems design. The company is seeking an exceptional engineer for its avionics development team to build critical components for Amazon Leo satellites, combining superb technical and analytical capabilities with a demonstrated ability to deliver hardware. As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will be part of the avionics hardware development team, designing and testing systems for satellite sensing and control, including power delivery, propulsion, and attitude control. Your role will span the full product lifecycle, from component selection and schematic design through layout review, bring-up, validation, and system integration. You will define requirements, drive high-quality hardware designs, and ensure robust execution from development into production. This role involves leading critical technical efforts, partnering with cross-functional teams (systems, firmware, manufacturing, integration) to solve complex problems in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment, tackling challenges not yet solved at scale, and contributing to engineering standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience developing hardware across the full product lifecycle (concept through production at scale)
  • Experience with PCB design and debug, including processors, FPGAs, power supplies, and sensors
  • Experience with complex board designs (e.g., high-speed interfaces, power electronics, or high-reliability systems)
  • Experience using ECAD tools for schematic capture and PCB layout
  • Experience driving hardware through bring-up, validation, and integration

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent
  • 7+ years of experience developing hardware across the full product lifecycle in aerospace, automotive, or similar high-reliability environments
  • Experience with satellite, avionics, or vehicle control systems
  • Experience with system integration into complex electromechanical assemblies or enclosures
  • Experience with radiation-tolerant design or qualification for harsh environments
  • Experience developing test systems or automation (e.g., Python, C/C++)
  • Experience with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) or similar system-level test methodologies
  • Experience with low-level firmware development and hardware/software integration

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end delivery of satellite avionics subsystems, from architecture and requirements through production ramp, in partnership with peer engineers.
  • Lead system and subsystem architecture, translating mission requirements into manufacturable hardware designs.
  • Drive circuit design, analysis, and ECAD schematic capture to meet performance and reliability targets.
  • Lead hardware design reviews (architecture, schematic, PCB layout) and set the technical bar for design quality.
  • Develop and execute bring-up, verification, and qualification test strategies.
  • Lead debugging and root cause resolution across development, qualification, and production, working closely with design and test engineers.
  • Establish requirements, traceability, and verification frameworks for hardware subsystems.
  • Lead production readiness and ramp, including test strategy, yield improvement, and issue resolution.
  • Influence cross-functional teams (systems, firmware, manufacturing, test, suppliers) to deliver program milestones.
  • Act as a technical leader, raising engineering standards and developing other engineers.
