About The Position

Astrodyne TDI is seeking a hands-on Senior Electrical Engineer - Power to design and develop electronic power conversion products, including switch-mode power supplies. This role combines detailed design work, prototype testing, customer collaboration, and technical leadership. The successful candidate will help create customized products that meet defined performance, cost, and schedule targets while supporting junior team members and cross-functional project execution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • At least five years of development experience focused on electronic power conversion products.
  • Proven experience designing switch-mode power supplies.
  • Proficiency with design and analytical tools such as PSpice and Mathcad.
  • Experience resolving electromagnetic compatibility issues.
  • Strong technical communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work onsite in Hackettstown, New Jersey.

Nice To Haves

  • High-frequency magnetic component design experience.
  • Experience with microcontroller circuits for power electronics.
  • Agency compliance experience, including UL, CSA, VDE, or CE.
  • Experience with battery management and charging systems.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to drive project tasks and support timely execution.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical responsibilities of electrical engineering projects, including the design, development, testing, and troubleshooting of switch-mode power supplies.
  • Generate specifications for new research and development products.
  • Use analytical tools to conceptualize and evaluate electrical designs.
  • Prepare schematic diagrams and bill-of-material part lists.
  • Participate on project teams with mechanical and process engineers.
  • Prepare component stress documentation, mean time between failures analyses, and design failure mode and effects analyses.
  • Work independently and with technicians to debug and test prototypes.
  • Develop design verification test procedures and support their execution, troubleshooting issues as they arise.
  • Communicate directly with customers to align designs with intended applications, performance requirements, and project goals.
  • Mentor junior team members in power technology, design-for-manufacturability practices, and professional work standards.
